Darin geht es um die Beschreibung eines potentiellen strukturellen Zusammenhanges von Konjunkturzyklus und Wirtschaftswachstum. Dazu untersuchen die Autoren Quartalsdaten des BIP von 16 OECD Staaten. Ihr angewandtes Analyseverfahren entspricht dem Testen auf unit-roots bei Vorliegen von Strukturbrüchen. Der Hauptunterschied zu vergleichbaren Arbeiten ist darin zu sehen, dass sie es nicht dabei belassen. Vielmehr stellen sie die aus den Tests gewonnenen Ergebnisse in dynamischen Zusammenhang mit identifizierten Wendepunkten im Konjunkturverlauf - turning-points. Im ersten Teil dieses Textes werden einige fundamental-theoretische Hintergründe der Zeitreihenanalyse vorgestellt, welche einem besseren Verständnis der nachfolgenden Vorstellung der Arbeit von Pedersen und Elmer dienlich sein sollen. Die Studie kann einen möglichen Zusammenhang von Konjunktur und Wachstum nicht verwerfen, was sich durch das Ergebnis manifestiert, dass 82% der geschätzten Strukturbrüche in der Nähe von Wendepunkten im Konjunkturverlauf auftreten.

A study done by Sachs and Warner (1995), using a sample of 135 countries, has shown that there is a positive correlation between openness and growth, e.g. that trade liberalisation fosters economic performance. The assumptions and country categorisations of this study have been criticised by Rodriguez and Rodrik (2000); they concluded that low tariff rates do not necessarily imply higher growth rates but that tariff protection exceeding a certain level stifles growth. Dollar and Kray (cited in Santos-Paulino and Thirlwall, 2004) compared different sets of countries with each other and found out that changes in growth rates are positively correlated with the share of trade and thus greater openness has accelerated economic growth. This essay compares the foreign trade policy of Mexico and Costa Rica. Even though both countries pursued the same policies, some differences can be found. Both implemented a strategy of import-substituting industrialisation until the serious crisis at the beginning of the 1980s, followed by a period of extensive trade liberalisation. This was due to pressure put on by the international institutions such as IMF or World Bank. While Mexico opened up its market, Costa Rica went further and lowered the import barriers. They put a strong emphasis on attracting foreign direct investment. With an average annual growth rate of 4.78 percent in Costa Rica and 4.43 percent in Mexico over the last four decades both countries achieved a strong economic growth exceeding the average of all other Latin American countries. However a positive interrelation between openness and growth could not be found in this study. This essay is structured in four main parts. Section II of this paper deals with the fundamental comparability of Mexico and Costa Rica. Section III portrays the foreign trade policies of both countries and illustrates the main similarities and differences. The development of growth is outlined in Section IV. Section V concludes the paper.

Primarily this has to do with the ancient Chinese ideology self. The Chinese, who are calling their country ¿The Empire of the Middle¿, were on principle in the past rarely attempted to leave their nation because the remaining world for them was not really livable. Outside the boundaries, there lived the so called barbarians, who in ancient times mostly were embodied by brutal Mongolian tribes, who martially tried to infiltrate China and from them the Chinese had to protect. So, they created their own world, a world in the world, enclosed by the thousands of meters long Great Wall (Chang Cheng), inside of they felt confident and could develop further. This retirement in an enclosed space and last but not least the retirement in oneself paved finally the way for their private gardens, in which they could undisturbed find an access to a better ¿world¿. This essay will deal with these little enclosed garden worlds, these micro-cosmos in a macro-cosmos. This work consists of a searching for their history and the holistically ¿religious¿ backgrounds, which first made enable these small but coevally ¿infinite¿ universes. It get to the bottom of the correlations between time and space, establish relationships between narrow and open, bright and dark, and last but not least inside and outside, which all are parts of an all-containing, super-ordinate ¿Great¿. It makes close connections to landscape paintings and the gardens self, which as major motif threads through the whole text, will find out that they are close correlated to the ¿Great¿ and grapple with the centre of the ¿Whole¿, with the ¿Zero-Perspective¿ or the ¿Vapidness¿, in which the human as important part at least can dive in to touch the sky. Of course also the framework of a Chinese private garden, the several elements, are considered, without them no garden could exist. The role and the important task of their walls will be bespoken, the several constructions of their buildings and last but not least the close to the human correlated plants. All this aspects will be picked up again at a walkabout through three famous Chinese gardens in Suzhou, where the mindfully reader finally will notice, that size does not necessarily count in architectural garden space.

Insbesondere in der Automobilindustrie, in der die Zulieferer so intensiv wie in kaum einer anderen Branche in den Produktionsprozess eingebunden sind, ist ein effizientes und effektives Management des Behälterflusses heute ein Muss. Begriffe wie Just-in-Time (JIT), Outsourcing oder verlängerte Werkbank prägen diese Branche. Ohne eine pünktliche Versorgung der Automobilwerke mit vorgefertigten Teilen und Baugruppen durch ihre Zulieferer, würden die Bänder nach kürzester Zeit still stehen. Ein ausgeklügeltes Behältermanagementsystem ist daher Teil einer perfekten Supply-Chain und stellt eine ausreichende Versorgung der Werke sicher. Ein gut organisiertes Behältermanagement kann ebenso zu einer Verbesserung der Wirtschaftlichkeit eines Unternehmens beitragen. Diese Integration von Behältermanagement und Just-in-Time-Konzepten soll im Rahmen dieser Arbeit näher betrachtet werden. Anhand von Beispielen aus der Automobilindustrie, die über die ausgereiftesten Just-in-Time-Konzepte verfügt und zunehmend die Wichtigkeit des Behältermanagements erkennt, sollen verschiedene Fragen zu diesem Thema beantwortet werden. Hierbei sollen zunächst grundlegende Begriffe wie die des Behälters, Behältermanagements und Just-in-Time erläutert werden, sowie auf die Integrationsmöglichkeiten eingegangen werden. Auf Basis der grundlegenden Funktionen von Behältern und Behälterkreisläufen können dann allgemeine Anforderungen an Systeme zum Behältermanagement formuliert werden. Abschliessend sollen aktuelle Trends und Zukunftsaussichten im Bereich des Behältermanagements aufgezeigt werden, wie beispielsweise der Einsatz von RFID-/Transponder-Technologie. Wie bereits erwähnt, wird sich diese Arbeit hauptsächlich an den Entwicklungen in und Beispielen aus der Automobilindustrie orientieren. Dies soll jedoch nicht implizieren, dass sich die vorgestellte Problematik nicht auch auf andere Branchen übertragen lässt. Für die 50er und 60er Jahre in den USA wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit die populäre Musik als Teil der allgemeinen kulturellen Entwicklung untersucht. Man kann vermuten, dass das Gesellschaftliche das Kulturelle, hier die Popmusik, dominiert und dass die kulturelle Entwicklung der gesellschaftlichen folgt. Auf das Reagieren reduziert, bliebe die Wirkung populärer Musik gerade in dieser Zeit unterschätzt. Besonders während der 50er und 60er Jahre hat sie allem Anschein nach relativ stark auf das politische und soziale Leben des Landes eingewirkt. So wird man letztendlich von einer wechselweisen Beeinflussung und Abhängigkeit beider Bereiche ausgehen müssen. Besonders für die ¿schnelllebige¿ Popmusik gilt ¿ wie für jede andere Modeerscheinung auch ¿, dass sie nicht für sich stehen und klassisch alle Zeiten überdauern kann, sondern vielmehr im Zusammenhang mit den gesellschaftlichen Bewegungen und Bedingungen gesehen werden muss: Dazu gehören die technischen Entwicklungen und die materiellen Möglichkeiten eines jeden Einzelnen ebenso wie die Entwicklung sozialer Konflikte und die ökonomischen Bedingungen, unter denen die Musik publiziert und vertrieben wird. Ein ¿musikalisches¿ Verhalten, das nicht zugleich auch soziales, kulturelles, technisches und kommerzielles Verhalten ist, gibt es dabei ebenso wenig, wie umgekehrt soziale Konflikte (auch) über das Medium Popmusik ausgetragen werden. Soziokulturelle Beziehungen lassen sich methodisch am erfolgreichsten verfolgen, wenn Brüche/Übergänge bisherige Zustände und Beziehungen verändern. Deshalb konzentriert sich mein Untersuchungszeitraum im Kern auf die Jahre 1953-1965. Während dieser Zeit sind zwei signifikante Umbrüche zu verzeichnen, die sich gezielt analysieren lassen: die Entwicklung des Rock¿n¿Roll und der Übergang vom traditionellen Folksong zum (Folk-)Rock vor allem durch Bob Dylan. Folgende Fragen werden meine Untersuchungen leiten: Wie reagieren unterschiedliche Bereiche wie Rassenproblematik, Politik, Musikszene usw. aufeinander? These can be categorised as biological and environmental. The former are linked to the laws of mortality and reproduction which determine the rate of demographic growth; the latter determine the resistance which these laws encounter and further regulate the rate of growth. Biological and environmental factors affect each other reciprocally and so are not independent of one another. For the most part the mechanisms for re-establishing an equilibrium of population growth are the product of choice (fertility, nuptiality and migration) although some are automatic. The sizes of households and families have varied over time, but they seem to have been similar in different societies despite differences in the types of households. It has to be noted that the European marriage and family formation is neither universal nor is it totally unique.

Some scholars approached the theme, focussing on a ¿common historical heritage¿, which points to a basis for a collective identity (Habermas 2001; Giesen 2003), others based their arguments on political and institutional similarities among European countries like human rights protection, democracy and rule of law (Risse 2001). In other cases, the studies on the topic focussed on the ambivalent employ of the term ¿identity¿, arguing its (ab)-use, above all in EU-Treaties, instead of more obviously expressions as ¿legitimacy¿ or ¿sovereignty¿ (Bruha/ Rau 2000). The aim of this paper is to examine the topic from two distinctive perspectives: a post-national and a postmodern. The paper suggests a sort of ¿back to the roots¿ of the en-quiry, approaching the subject neither with pre-existent assumptions nor with the goal to order puzzled arguments. The study will not pursue the question about the existence of a collective European identity, but will search for possible ways and circumstances, in which ¿identity¿ in Europe (restricting the focus on the European Union) may emerge. The central question of the paper will be if the development of an European identity is plausible and if a widespread process of socialisation may prevail on the national structures of the member states (hereafter MSs) and lead to the growth of common ¿procedures¿ and ¿functions¿ among European populations. In order to answer the question the more satisfactory as possible, the dissertation proposes two differing angles for the analysis with the intend to compare the findings resulting from dissimilar criteria of examination. In a first part the EU will be considered as a post-national political order, deriving from the dissolution of its MSs. After a short explanation on the political nature of the Union from this standpoint, the dissertation will explore the option of an emerging post-national identity in the European Union, adopting the criteria proposed by Anthony Smith in his study of national identities (Smith 1991). The analysis will evaluate if the EU attends the proposed criteria in order to assess the coming out of a post-national form of social identification. [...]

His representation of women, in particular the ways in which his female roles are interpreted and put on stage, have become topics of scientific interest. Especially the young women often show vitality, great intelligence, and a strong sense of personal independence, which marks them as ¿queen[s] of comedy¿ (Palmer 72). Therefore, they are often referred to as Shakespeare¿s heroines. In the following, I want to show their importance and point out that each heroine, although they all share character traits, has distinct and unique qualities. In doing so, I will occasionally refer to a secondary literature and involve positions of different critics. Though, my attention will be focussed on the plays treated in this research paper: A Midsummer Night¿s Dream, As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest, and Twelfth Night. On the basis of these romantic comedies, I will analyse how the young women are presented and subsequently compare them among one another. In the first part I will look at each heroine individually and introduce their plays. Then I will develop possible similarities between them: Beautiful but unworldly Miranda seems to be totally controlled by her father Prospero, but she shows a strong will in planning a shared future with Ferdinand and she is aware of her superiority to the savage Caliban. Hermiäs father similarly chooses her husband. With magic help, however, she and Helena manage to come together with the right partner. Moreover, Helena reveals that she believes in the transformative power of love (MND I.2, 233-4). Viola in Twelfth Night is in a way almost the opposite of Rosalind in As You Like It, although both plays deal with a cross-dressed heroine. Whereas Rosalind can tease Orlando, always knowing that he is in love with her and being moreover able to reveal herself to him whenever she wants, Viola feels trapped in her disguise and has to work for the man she is in love with and even woo another woman on his behalf. Beatrice may not disguise herself in order to show her power like Rosalind, but she is nevertheless a strong female character: she marries only after asserting her dislike for the traditionally minor role of women in marriage and courtship in that time.[...]

The before mentioned development, as well as the dynamic of service sector in itself, has lead to an increasing interest in the special problems of service marketing (Rust and Chung, 2006, pp.560-561). The present essay will explore particularities regarding the marketing mix in service operations. Nowadays, word has spread. The topic has become more pressing on political agendas, national and international summits. In the 2007 Adecco Fitness Survey, European companies invision the demographic change as the second biggest business challenge, following Globalization. The UN has been pressing the issue of ageing populations since the 1940s and forecasts that the number of people over 60 years old will have tripled by 2050. For the first time in history, this figure will exceed that of the number of children (0 ¿ 14 years). However, these aggregated figures do not show that these developments have taken place differently across the globe. Europe is experiencing the most rapid ageing, and the number of old people is already higher than the number of young people. This may explain why demographic change now has such a high priority in EU policies. Nico van Nimwegen, deputy director of the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute notes that the ageing problem is the dominant challenge the EU is facing. He sees the implications of this trend and the need for action and policy change in various areas. Employment has been recognized as one of these target areas. The ageing of the population has important repercussions on the available labor force and thus impacts economic prospects as a whole. This paper will analyze demographic changes and their impacts on the labor markets. It will begin with an overview of Europe¿s demographic development and its driving forces. The subsequent impacts on the labor force will then be discussed followed by an overview of different proposed policy options and how they could help circumvent the consequences of demographic change. Here the goal shall not be to detail single policy measures, but to unveil areas in which policy action needs to be considered. Particular policies have to be chosen carefully by each country in accordance to its individual situation and institutional framework. Finally, the findings of this paper will be reviewed and a final conclusion will be given.
