It has achieved "the enhanced status [¿] as the dominant world language [which] has led to an increased demand for the training of competent specialists able to mediate" (Alcaraz Varo/Hughes, 2002: 1). This goes along with a "phenomenal increase in the teaching of [¿] 'English for special (or specific) purposes' " (ibid.: 2). What is the reason for this development? This piece of work might give an answer; it dedicates itself to domain specific English language: language and law. It concentrates on the characteristics of the structure of legal English in particular. An overview of the central structural features is given, without claiming completeness. Legal professionals aim at a precise explanation of facts which should leave no doubts. This aim forces them to use a certain kind of language pattern, such as including a high amount of definitions in legal texts, along with numerous complex and ancient phrases deriving from Law French and plentiful enumerations which can all together form a single sentence covering several lines. Dependent on which party they represent, lawyers make frequent use of features that reduce the agent in his identity while emphasizing the action ¿ a matter of strategy which has the impeding of comprehension as a consequence. Therefore, the field of law becomes completely unapproachable for laymen, who are scarcely able to follow legal discourse. Even well-educated native speakers often find it hard to understand the language used in court. However, the access to one¿s rights is important. To begin with, the reader will be provided with an overall definition of special languages and an explanation why to regard them as a variety of a language; afterwards this will be illustrated at the example of the language of the law. Subsequently, the foundations for the structural analysis of legal English will have been laid. Language has to serve as the vehicle for transporting what the law is about. But legal language does not seem to be a good packaging of legal contents. That is why experts are asked to diminish the barrier and mediate between the language of the law and common speech. Does legalese function as an obstacle rather than a vehicle then? This question will have to be considered in this piece of work. This term characterises the unparalleled close Anglo-American relations during the Second World War and in the time thereafter. The shared perception that Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union constituted major external threats to their well-being bound the societies and leaderships of Great Britain and the United States together. The looming menace ceased to exist after the break-up of the Soviet Union and the demise of Communism, and for several authors so did the raison d¿être of the Special Relationship as well. It was more however that brought these two countries together than the shared perception of a communist threat. Why is it that "neither country has fully adjusted its mind to thinking of the members of the other society as foreigners", and that Americans still refer to Britain as the "mother country" every now and then? Why do certain authors call Britain the "fortified outpost of the Anglo-Saxon race" or the "unsinkable aircraft carrier"? And is it just by chance that fictional author George Orwell calls Britain "Airstrip One" and associates it with North America in his novel "1984"? Is it a coincidence or are these - admittedly vague - expressions signs of subtle yet overarching bonds between the two countries? This work will analyse and discuss various aspects of Anglo-American relations. The apparent cooperation in the fields of foreign and security policy will be assessed, as well as the more disguised realm of military and intelligence collaboration. Following is a chapter about two aspects that dominate our time, economy and business in the Anglo-American relationship. The last chapter attempts to illuminate the obscure field of "private" relations between the Anglo-American nations, as well as the importance of the personal relationships between the individual Presidents and Prime Ministers. For a better understanding of Anglo-American Affairs the common backgrounds of the two countries are assessed historically, culturally and in terms of language. The question or the leitmotif on which this work is be based asks whether the concept of a Special Relationship in current Anglo-American relations is still a de facto reality or just a myth, that lingers on from the shared experience of the two World wars: Does the weary British Lion still enjoy a remarkably "special" relationship with the almighty American Eagle?

Hierfür werden zunächst die Merkmale und Einsatzmöglichkeiten von Zweckgesellschaften erläutert und im Anschluss die Bilanzierungsvorschriften beschrieben. Darauf aufbauend erfolgt eine empirische Analyse der Konzernabschlüsse der DAX und MDAX Unternehmen, in welcher die Auswirkungen der Regeländerungen sowie die Bedeutung von Zweckgesellschaften dargestellt werden sollen. Für Geschäftsjahre beginnend ab dem 1. Januar 2014 haben EU-Unternehmen das neue Konsolidierungspaket ¿ bestehend aus den International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) 10, 11 und 12¿verpflichtend für die Erstellung des Konzernabschlusses anzuwenden. Die neuen Standards lösen u. a. die in der Vergangenheit stark kritisierten Vorschriften des International Accounting Standard (IAS) 27 Konzern- und separate Abschlüsse sowie die für Zweckgesellschaften ergänzenden Vorschriften nach dem Standing Interpretation Committee (SIC) 12 Konsolidierung¿Zweckgesellschaften ab. Im Zusammenhang mit den geänderten Regelungen wurde u. a. die Möglichkeit zur Umgehung der Einbeziehung von sog. Zweckgesellschaften in den Konzernabschluss sowie die gegenseitigen Verwerfungen der beiden Standards erheblich kritisiert. Durch diese Off-Balance-Sheet-Finanzierung werden Vermögensgegenstände bzw. Schulden und somit erhebliche Risiken nicht aus den Konzernabschlüssen ersichtlich. Banken, aber auch viele andere Konzernunternehmen, nutzten Zweckgesellschaften u. a., um risikobehaftete bzw. ausfallgefährdete Kredite und Forderungen nicht in ihrer Bilanz abbilden zu müssen, wodurch grosse Risiken nicht ersichtlich waren. Durch Finanzierungs- und Ausfallzusagen der Banken wurden die nicht abgebildeten Risiken während der Finanzmarktkrise jedoch zurückgeholt und waren weiterhin fällig. Zweckgesellschaften sind in der Unternehmenswelt zum Teil derart komplex ausgestaltet, dass eine konsistente Beurteilung der Einbeziehung zum Konsolidierungskreis nicht immer eindeutig ist. An effective corporate rescue procedure is a cornerstone of a prospering economy. Economical value is closely connected to the risk of economic loss. Therefore, economic growth will only be sustainable if investments are supported by safeguards donated by effective insolvency regimes not only focussing on a fast liquidation but also on the reorganisation or rescue of a company. Only the careful balance of creditors¿ rights and the entrepreneurial spirit of the debtors ensure attractiveness for investments.(3) B Comparative approach This essay is focussed on the administrator as point of comparison because his role in the process significantly reflects the principles of the underlying corporate rescue regime. In both countries Australia and Germany the administrator is a relatively influential organ. The essay will show that the role of the German administrator is much more influenced by the court than in Australia. The essay¿s goal is to examine selected issues concerning the Australian and German administrator. Within a few years the ¿mighty¿ Soviet Union fell back from a major power to a third world economy, dealing with problems like mass poverty and epidemics. In light of these disastrous outcomes the question of what ¿went right¿ during the transition process seems to be even more appropriate then the question of what ¿went wrong¿. However, while it seems to be obvious that the stabilization and liberalization attempts by the Russian government predominantly failed, privatization, the third core facet of transition1 , ¿has been touted as a one of the major successes of the Russian government¿s economic transformation policy. By the beginning of 1996 77.2% of medium-size and large enterprises had been privatised, accounting for 88.3% of total industrial output.¿2 On the one hand, according to the Russian government¿s Western advisers this privatization is the fastest in human history and ¿seems to be one of the few positive fruit of Russian economic policy since 1991¿3. On the other hand, a common point of view is that its implementation led to an unfair distribution of state assets and only benefited a minority of Russian population. This debate is going to be the main focus of this paper. By discussing the general importance of the private sector to a democracy, the aims of privatization, its subsequent reforms, and its results, I intend to assess the contribution of these reforms to the process of Russian democratization.

However, more recent developments such as the passing of the Deal, withdrawal of Left support and the vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha are not included. On April 8th 2008 The Hindu published an article titled ¿Potential consequences of a regional nuclear conflict¿ in which the author convincingly illustrates the dangers a nuclear- armed South Asia presents.1 The fact that both India and Pakistan, but of course also China, possess nuclear weapons has been an alarming reality since 1998. The relative progress that has been achieved in India- Pakistan relations should not lead one to forget that two conflicts in 1999 and 2001 could easily have escalated into a nuclear confrontation. India had embarked upon a civilian nuclear program right after her independence but the ¿weapon option¿ has always been present. Indiäs nuclear policy has been an evolutionary, sometimes painful process equally shaped by domestic and international factors. This paper attempts to analyse some of these factors and argues that the development of nuclear weapons was a logical, albeit not planned, consequence of them. It is interesting that even those in India fiercely opposed to nuclear weapons subconsciously seemed to have realised that Indiäs nuclear program could not be limited to civilian application forever. A constant in Indiäs nuclear policy is the strong wish to become and remain as independent as possible. For this independent nuclear policy India had to pay a high price. Isolated from international nuclear cooperation, confronted with sharp criticism and even sanctions, India had to rely on herself. While Indiäs success has been a great source of national pride Indiäs isolation in nuclear issues also contributed to a lack of strategic planning regarding Indiäs place in both the region and the world, and the role the nuclear weapons should or should not play in this. The (possible) India- US nuclear deal has provoked an intense debate among Indian actors that creates the chance that India will finally come to terms with its nuclear potential as she prepares for assuming the status of a world power.

Marketers spend millions of dollars each year to identify well defined, strong brand images and to support them. A company¿s economic superiority is frequently implied by the strength of its brand name giving it the ability to differentiate itself and improve its competitiveness. (Nykiel, 1997) Park, Jaworski and MacInnis (1986) noted that consumer needs could be classified in functional or symbolic needs. The functional needs are related to specific and practical consumption problems, whereas symbolic needs are related to self image and social identification. (Subodh Bhat, 1998) Therefore they mentioned that all brand should have a ¿brand concept¿, which is an overall abstract meaning that identifies a brand. Also, there are different types of motivations among each individual, and these motivations drives their needs either to be functional or symbolic in nature. Thus, functional needs of consumers could be exploited with a functional brand, one positioned with a functional brand concept. A brand could be also positioned as a ¿symbolic¿ brand for consumers who whish to enhance their self image or their social image. (Park, 1991)
