When there is a discussion about the transition in Prussia around 1800, as a rule this refers to the reforms which began after 1806. The letters deal with the philosophy and theology taught in Tübingen. Evidence of this background is provided in an abundance of explanatory annotations, as is the evidence of Spinozas influence. It is due to this historical-critical edition that Schellings position can be understood precisely for the first time. Five different versions were used for the text structure of the ›Philosophische Briefe‹ (Philosophical Letters). In the ›Deduction des Naturrechts‹ (Deduction of Natural Law), Schelling only mentions a single name, contrary to his previous practice. It is established in the editorial report that he was familiar with the names of the important teachers of natural law of his time. The volume concludes with the first complete reprint of the ›Anti-Critique‹ in a collected edition – including the critique which instigated it.

Kant's logic lectures are anything but a special course of lectures on the problems of logic. They are more like a first introduction to philosophy in general and in a unique way they reflect the intellectual world of the German Enlightenment. In the third volume of the Kant Index, a transcript of such a logic lecture is broken down lexically for the first time. As a result of this, the language and terminology of Enlightenment philosophy in the 18th century are readily accessible. The Logik Blomberg (Blomberg Logic) goes back to the beginning of the seventies and is thus one of the earliest of the completely extant transcripts. Together with the first two volumes of the Kant Index, this index volume is an important resource for understanding the variety of references in the lecture notes, the compendium which Kant used and the reflections in the literary remains on logic. The repeatedly discussed questions pertaining to the reliability, the origins and the age determination of the transcripts are thus at least somewhat closer to being solved. With the aid of comprehensive lists of typographical errors and errors in transcription, emendations and conjectures, several hundred errors in Volume XXIV of the Academy edition have also been corrected on the basis of the transcript.

This volume traces the external and internal history of the Academy Plato‹s school, up to the time of Cicero (and up until its official closing in 529 AD) and focuses on the question of how much was known of the teachings of Plato and his followers in the 1st century BC, i.e. what were the foundations of knowledge which formed the basis of Platonism as it emerged during the early imperial period. Dörrie comes to the conclusion that "the tradition established by Plato had suffered several breaks.» As a consequence, Platonism of the imperial period did not have its origins in the Academy but instead had to be newly established outside it.

Just under 100 sources, most of which have not been published for more than two centuries, show how an Enlightenment interested in the welfare of society had evolved from the new orientation of a social class of scholars and educated people and how then the idea originated to provide the common man with the new findings on natural science so that these could be put into practice. The early debates about the goals and the means of enlightening the common man are fascinating, since it was in these that for the first time ideas were expressed stating that in addition to economic enlightenment it would be necessary to create an entire educational movement which was aimed at changing the mentality of the farmers. This also meant a change in the literary instruments of the Enlightenment of the common people.

Between April 1784 and June 1788, the draft for a ‹General Code of Law for the Prussian State‹ was published in Berlin. The advance notice it was given called upon the public to give their evaluation of this and encouraged the scholars of legal philosophy in Germany and other countries to engage in a thorough criticism, for which substantial prizes were offered. Included in the new edition in 6 volumes is an account of the development and further revision of the draft. There is a list of critical suggestions (monita), made by the courts, the administrative authorities, the three estates, and private individuals.
