Diploma Thesis from the year 2003 in the subject Computer Science - Commercial Information Technology, grade: 1.3 (A), European Business School - International University Schloss Reichartshausen Oestrich-Winkel (Information Systems), language: English, abstract: The pressure on today¿s companies to outperform their competitors has been amplified by ever-growing customer demands. Diversification of products and operations in various markets entail heightened levels of uncertainty and risk in the wake of a pronounced economic downturn. Technical advances and strategic reconsiderations in the Business-to-Business (B2B) market have led companies to meet such challenges with new forms of collaboration. Especially considering its drawbacks, the success of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) has confirmed the demand for interfirm connectivity. Combined, current forms of collaboration are limited both in scale and scope, as few companies have had the vision and drive to prepare themselves for what is ahead of proprietary one-to-one exchanges. Since 1999, industrial organizations have separately attempted to enable common interfirm trade with the help of online trading platforms and e-marketplaces. In most industries, the use of these platforms has been reduced to low numbers of intra-industry transactions between first-movers and strategic visionaries. Despite their damped optimism, companies¿ readiness has progressed along with the market potential. Tackling the initial weaknesses, an integrative B2B trading network that is based on true interoperability and openness is now well-positioned to exploit this increased potential. Still, collaboration in its current forms may not be sufficient: considering the present dominance of customer demands, an increasing number of individual solutions must be mass-tailored to order. At first sight, this leaves companies with no choice but to at least neglect, if not give up the goals of synergies, economies of scale as well as critical mass. In reply to this increasingly dynamic and competitive market environment, companies may outsource supporting functions and focus on their core competences. So far however, Western firms have lacked access to the right partners for the required resources, allowing only the outsourcing of selected operations or collaboration on projects of limited. Similar to e-marketplaces, outsourcing has so far not only been restricted in both its strategic and operational scope, but also repeatedly been employed ineffectively or inappropriately. To fully account for the challenges of today¿s companies and to leverage their dormant potential, e-marketplaces and outsourcing are to be combined.

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 1,3, University of Freiburg (Englisches Seminar), course: HS The Coming-of-Age Story in America, language: English, abstract: In the ¿coming-of-age story¿ the major conflict of the story lies in the adult world. Rather than focusing on the change of the youth, in the latter story type the youth character is exposed to a confrontation with the adult world. In Oates¿s story this confrontation consists of the fact that the youth world (Connie) is getting overpowered by the adult world (Arnold Friend). At the beginning of the story, in the title, the reader is confronted with a twofold question pointing in two directions. ¿The very title of the story calls attention to duality: a future (where are you going) and a past (where have you been).¿ Therefore, in this term paper the following thesis will be examined: ¿The concept of duality is a basic feature of the ¿coming-of-age¿ story.¿ It will be shown that in Oates¿s ¿Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?¿ one distinctive feature of creating the story type of the ¿coming-of-age¿ story is the concept of duality. While following the twofold pattern of analyzing the representation of the youth world and the adult world, further major techniques of creating duality in Oates¿s story will be discovered, such as irony, ambiguity, grotesque, parody, allusions, deception, and allegory.

Seminar paper from the year 2000 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,0, Bielefeld University (Fakultät für Linguistik und Literaturwissenschaft), course: Prosa der Postmoderne, language: English, abstract: Usually a novel contains a beginning, a middle and an end. That is what the reader expects from the majority of books. This convention is not only based on the presumption that only by this sequence of beginning, middle and end a reader will find the reading of a novel rewarding but there are also theoretical concepts demanding this structure. Mendilow points out that Aristotle was one of the first to stress the meaning of a general structure in a piece of literature. According to Aristotle [e]in Ganzes ist, was Anfang, Mitte und Ende hat. This concept is true for realistic novels but it falls short for most of the postmodern novels. In this paper I will show how the structure of a linear plot is given up in Peter Ackroyd¿s novel Hawksmoor. The sequence of beginning, middle and end evokes that all events are linked by a chain of causality. In Hawksmoor the chain of causality and the linear concept of time are replaced by a circular concept of time. The events in the novel and in particular the murders cannot be explained by the principle of causality. In my paper I will analyse the concept of time in Ackroyd¿s novel. As a first step I will point out the relation of the novel to the historical figure Nicholas Hawksmoor and summarise briefly the two plots so that on this basis the analogies and recurrences in each plot can be better understood. Chapter 3 deals with the conception of characters because it is the repetition of characteristics, biographies and attitudes of the characters that illustrate best the linear concept of time. The character that is associated the most with this concept of time is the protagonist of the eighteenth-century plot Nicholas Dyer. Therefore, I choose this figure for a detailed analysis in chapter 4.

Seminar paper from the year 2003 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: very good, Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (Seminar for Anglistics), course: Hauptseminar "Metaphor and Metonymy", language: English, abstract: ¿Most of our fundamental concepts are organized in terms of one or more spatialization metaphors¿: this very elementary conclusion is drawn by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson (1980: 17) after having analysed what they call orientational metaphors. In opposition to the classical point of view, Lakoff, Johnson, and other cognitive linguists believe this group of metaphors, among others, to be deeply embedded in the human conceptualisation system and to provide a means of reasoning about and structuring of entire, mostly abstract, domains in terms of other, more concrete, domains. Based on a limited amount of underlying image schemata, which are projected onto these domains, metaphors are employed in order to be able to understand large parts of the world surrounding us. Cognitive linguistics asks for the motivation and functional explanation of linguistic expressions. Beyond merely linguistic aspects, the cognitive approach is aiming high, since its targets are, among others, a new theory of categorisation (Lakoff 1987), Imagination (Johnson 1987: 139ff.), and, what would be a fundamental change in Western philosophy, meaning by the approach entitled as cognitive semantics In most of these and other disciplines of cognitive sciences, metaphor is one of the chief means by which these targets are tried to be accomplished. In linguistics, metaphor is an explanation for many expressions which were, on the traditional Objectivist account, viewed as being arbitrary. The general principle by which cognitive linguists explain thess expressions is as follows: Fundamental spatial and physical experiences yield certain image schemata. These schemata are mapped by means of metaphorical projection onto abstract concepts, which human beings would otherwise not be able to grasp. By metaphorical mapping, these concepts are understood, structured and given meaning. Therefore, metaphor is, on the cognitive account of meaning, far more than just a stylistic device: it is rather a way by which we understand our environment. Furthermore, metaphor is used, as accounted for by the cognitive approach, neither consciously nor intentionally. Contrary to the traditional account in which the speaker or the poet uses metaphorical expressions by intention, these are regarded as merely linguistic reflections of underlying means of understanding which are, for many abstract concepts, the only means available to us by which we can understand these concepts.

Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject Business economics - Supply, Production, Logistics, grade: 1.7, Protestant University of Applied Sciences Hamburg (Protestant University of Applied Sciences Hamburg), course: International Logistics Management, language: English, abstract: Continued deflationary trends in many markets around the world are creating greater pressure for risk prevention in order that margins can be maintained. Customers and consumers are increasingly value driven. In this challenging world, there is a growing recognition that creative pricing strategies combined with effective supply chain management provide opportunities for significant risk capital cost reduction and yet increased profits. This paper presents evidence and a new model to support this viewpoint and suggests an approach to supply chain alignment that can enable cost reduction opportunities to be identified and higher profits to be achieved through collaborative strategies. For a good risk management the bank uses, among other figures, RORAC, RAROC and RARORAC to minimize the risk that each credit-borrower brings along. In the financing sector, therefore, they created the credit-ranking system. Now the next question would be, why not implement that credit-ranking in logistics to minimize risks in order to create a certain risk capital as security. Especially in the airfreight segment, where there is a lot of environmental risk involved, there has to be created a new way to prevent from high unexpected losses. The question that has to be answered

grin the concepts of love

Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1, University of Innsbruck (Department of English), course: The Irish Literary Revival, language: English, abstract: Love was one of William Butler Yeats¿s great inspirations. It was love that kept him moving and developing. It was love that confused him and made him reflect. It was love that shattered him and made him mourn. Yeats¿s experience with love was rich and fulfilling as well as frustrating and devastating. In order to come to a better understanding of Yeats¿s love poetry, we need to take a look into his private life: ¿Yeats met the fiery revolutionary [Maud Gonne] in 1889. He fell deeply in love with her and would propose to her in 1891, 1899, 1900, 1901, and 1916. Gonne had no use for Yeats's proposals. However, she did have a use for his talents. Gonne would use Yeats for his ability as an orator. Maud Gonne, dragging him at her heels on nationalist agitations, soon found that he was a natural orator and could easily dominate committees. Maud Gonne would continue to turn Yeats proposals down, yet she continued to be the catalyst for the finest love poetry Yeats would ever create. Gonne would once ask for Yeats's help in London, ending a brief but happy love affair with Olivia Shakespear. Sensing divided loyalty, Shakespear would end the affair and it was shortly thereafter that Lady Gregory would save Yeats from a potentially more tragic end, like the poets of the tragic generation¿ (cf. nadn.navy). Yeats really loved Maud Gonne. She was the love of his life, and still, she would never really react to, let alone return his love. Yeats has experienced the many different facets of love through this continuous interaction between his everlasting true and sincere affection and dedication and her cold and calculating rejection. But although this may be a personal tragedy it also resulted in something positive and beautiful, namely Yeats¿s love poetry Maud Gonne inspired him to. Yeats managed to deal with all his positive and negative experiences in a productive way and included them into his poetry. Maud Gonne once even said to him that she could not stop rejecting him as he would not write such beautiful poetry about her anymore then. As said, Yeats¿s perception and concepts of love can be identified in his poetry. Furthermore, we can identify a development of Yeats¿s depiction of love in his poetry. We can find many different sides of love in Yeats¿s poems. In some poems, Yeats describes it as an almost divine power. In other poems, he starts doubting whether love is really that fulfilling or not. And in further poems, he even focuses on the dark and destructive sides of love. These different concepts of love will be described in this paper through the analysis of selected poems.

Scientific Essay from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: Distinction, University of Western Sydney (School of Management ), course: Human Resource Strategy, language: English, abstract: The organisational culture as a complex and multilayer concept and embraces regarding to Cameron and Quinn ¿¿the taken-for-granted values, underlying assumptions, expectations, collective memories and definitions present in an organisation¿ (2006, p. 16). Regarding to Lasher (1999) the term of organisational culture describes the general operating mode and the character of an organisation. Further the organisational culture is often distinguished between the external visible and the hidden section (Lewis, 1998). The culture of an organisation becomes visibly manifested in its lived politics, processes, symbols and behaviours. While the emotions, beliefs and values of organisational members as well as the fundamental basic assumptions respectively the ¿Paradigm¿ in the inner core of an organisation cause the hidden part of an organisational culture (Lewis, 1998). The employees take an outstanding position. They mark and affect the organisational culture and develop it to an organisation with a unique character. In this respect HRM is of substantial importance for the perceived culture. In their ¿Cultural Web¿ concept Johnson, Scholes and Whittington (2005) focused on the extrinsic observable elements of an organisational culture and factored out the abstract and hidden cultural part of emotions, beliefs and values. The ¿Cultural Web¿ represents the organisational assumptions - which are taken for granted and become manifest in the everyday behaviour of the organisational members ¿ in six dimensions of cultural artefacts. Each dimension describes a certain aspect of the operating mode and behaviour in an organisation. The subsequent figure shows the ¿Cultural Web¿ respectively the six manifest dimensions of the organisational ¿Paradigm¿ of the Dicom Group plc. The artefacts can be attributed fundamentally to the technical, political or cultural subsystems of an organisation (Balogun and Hope Hailey, 2004)...

Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Other, grade: 1, West Virginia University, language: English, abstract: This paper discusses the concept of Academic Writing and the role of the importance in the ESL classroom. The different perspectives that have to be considered while teaching writing for an Academic purpose and some teaching approaches will be mentioned and evaluated. Thereby the focus will be on the different opinions and methods, as well as constraints and problems that scholars investigated about the notion of Academic Writing. There are a lot of discussions and some research has recently tried to define how the particluar and varied academic discourse communities have to be considered in the curriculum of ESL learners, but still there is a lot of uncertainty of how effective classroom teaching in composition or content classes lead to a the demanded knowledge transformation that the ESL students need in order to fit successfully into a special academic field and write with respect to the expectations of that special audience. This paper tries to mention the most important articles and findings in order to understand the notion of Academic writing and examines some of the constraints students as well as teachers have to deal with and summarizes also some opportunities of making students aware of specific styles, formats, and conventions that are needed in their particular discourse communities and that can and should be involved in ESL composition and content classes with English for an academic purpose to achieve a desired participation in the higher-educational level through fullfilment of the writing standards of educational and academical conventions and values of a particular discourse community. A working definition of Godev explains the notion of Academic writing: ¿The term ¿academic writing¿ seems to escape any definition that may try to encompass every writing task likely to be encountered in any of the academic disciplines.¿ (Godev 2000, 636). The reason for this is that the style of a given academic product is defined by conventions that are ultimately dicipline specific as Spack pointed out. (Spack 1988, 32). Nevertheless there are four different perspectives that have to be considered to get a wider understanding of the term academic writing. The notions of a) audience, b) task, c) communicative functions, and d) style are very crucial in order to conceive a working definition of academic writing. The four different perspectives have different views of and about academic writing. Gajdusek & van Dommelen 1993, 202) as well as Silva (1991) stated that from the perspective of the audience, academic writing is a kind of writing accepted by the faculty of a particular discourse community when discussing a topic in a published material or when the members of the special discourse community adress themselves to others of the same one orally. Silva explained the notion of...

grin exclamative sentences a basic

Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 1,7, Free University of Berlin (Institut für Englisch Philologie), course: Understanding English - German Contrasts, language: English, abstract: The grammatical concepts for the basic sentence types in German and English are established and confirmed in various grammars. Each grammar differentiates between declarative, interrogative and imperative sentence. But when it comes to the classification of exclamative sentences different and partly excluding concepts can be found. Some grammarians regard exclamative sentences as an individual sentence type whereas others define exclamative sentences as a special case of one of the other three basic sentence types. The purpose of this paper is to try to find an answer to the controversial question whether exclamative sentences are a basic sentence type. For this reason an analysis of German and English grammars and research papers dealing with the classification of exclamative sentences is necessary. The analysis will focus on the following questions and problems: ¿ Is there a sentence type ¿exclamative sentence¿, which can be unambiguously characterised and identified? ¿ If so, can exclamative sentences be regarded as a basic sentence type alongside declarative, interrogative and imperative sentences? ¿ If not, what are exclamative sentences? Do they belong to the basic sentence types or are they a minor sentence type? The analysis will proceed in the following fashion. First, I will analyse German grammars and papers regarding exclamative sentences, including their use and meaning. Second, I will continue the analysis with English grammars and papers. A summary after each part will restate the results of the analysis. Third, in a concluding section the results will be restated shortly. The gained information from the other sections will be used to answer the initial question whether there is an individual exclamative sentence type.

grin transfer pricing for multinational

Trouver conseils, opinions et fonctionnalités sur grin transfer pricing for multinational il est vendu 41.9 € , présent dans la catégorie Bücher & Zeitschriften; ce produit appartient à Grin et est vendu par Orellfuessli.ch

Diploma Thesis from the year 2003 in the subject Business economics - Accounting and Taxes, grade: 2,0 (B), University of Applied Sciences in Schmalkalden (Economics), course: Cost Pricing und Controlling, 121 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Globalization of business has replaced the concept of national exchanges with global transactions. Consequently, the changes due to globalization play a big role in the strategy of multinational enterprises. The volume of intrafirm trade is huge and expanding rapidly as multinationals globalize their investment and trade. Today, a considerable proportion of world trade takes place within multinational enterprises. This indicates the importance of transfer pricing conspicuously. The intention of this book is to describe the challenge of transfer pricing holistically and to exhibit some options for multinational enterprises determining their transfer prices. While management accounting as well as strategic aspects of transfer prices are also relevant for enterprises, which are not multinational, external aspects (specifically tax accounting) are typically only crucial for multinationals. This book is an attempt to integrate all aspects of transfer pricing targeting practitioners as well as economists.

Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject Communications - Media and Politics, Politic Communications, grade: 1,3, University of Siegen, course: Censorship - Concept & Case Studies, language: English, abstract: On June 25th, 1943, American press editors received a confidential note, the contents an purpose of which was hard to understand even for those who were familiar with the technical terms. It said: ¿[...] you are asked not to publish or broadcast any information whatever regarding war experiments involving: Production or utilization of atom smashing, atomic energy, atomic fission, atomic splitting, or any of their equivalents. The use for military purposes of radium or radioactive materials, heavy water, high voltage discharge equipment, cyclotrons. The following elements or any of their compounds: polonium, uranium, ytterbium, hafnium, protactinium, radium, rhenium, thorium, deuterium.¿ What sounded ¿like Greek¿ to the selected adressees of the request, in retrospective can be identified even by an amateur as the attempt to hide evidence that the US government was doing research on a nuclear device. It was about to play a decisive role in the ending of the Pacific War. Since the United States' entry in World War II, domestic censorship had to draw a line very carefully: On the one hand, the First Amendment to the Constitution grands the freedom of speech and the press; on the other hand, sensitive information, if revealed to the public, could fall into the hands of enemy agents. To handle this task, the government set in effect a voluntary censorship, building up on every journalist's patriotic instinct not to publish anything that might be a threat to the war effort. How was censorship organized? What kind of information was censored? Is there an actual difference between voluntary and mandatory censorship? These are questions the following research paper will elaborate on. A brief overview of the practices of censorship in times of war will accompany the analysis. Finally, the text makes an attempt to answer the question how the United States ¿survived¿ the censorship period and how it affected further censorship strategies. An important source for this paper is the book ¿Secrets of Victory. The Office of Censorship and the American Press and Radio in World War II¿ by Michael S. Sweeney, that has been published in 2001. Censorship of the press during war is common to many countries and has been used for strategic ends in many periods of time. A characteristic for modern wars in particular is a ¿difference of interest¿, with journalists torn between their task to report ¿as truthfully as possible¿ and a responsibility not to help the enemy.

Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Culture and Applied Geography, printed single-sided, grade: 1,7, Humboldt-University of Berlin (Institut für Anglistik), course: Concepts of Culture in the 19th Century, 17 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: An attempt to define the term socialism in a possibly precise and short way, as well as excerpts from the biographical background of William Morris, who is considered to be one of the first British socialists, will serve as an introduction to this work's subject. Different writings, and especially an article contributed by Morris in 1885 which he named "The Worker¿s Share of Art"1 will be the main reference before other, selected prospects, and ideas are taken into consideration. The introduction of socialism will only focus on those aspects that are necessary for further understanding and which re-emerge in the arguments and formulations of William Morris who only became a socialist in his mid fourties. Generally, socialism is "an ideology with the core belief that a society should exist in which popular collectives control the means of power, and therefore the means of production."2 One of the main objectives of socialism is a classless society, which can either be created by revolution, or social revolution. The problem of the extended, and more detailed description of socialism as a concrete model for a society is its history. Indeed, meanwhile socialism is often misunderstood and due to the fact that history has shown some misinterpretations of the term, namely the National Socialists in Germany for instance, it has become very difficult to point out what socialism really means today. According to that, the opportunity which lasts to characterize socialism anyway, is to look at it at a certain time, and to leave out its historical development in general, but only to include those changes and processes which are of great importance for the period in question. Furthermore, there are other useful criteria to divide socialism as for instance the distinction between "Socialism from above", and "Socialism from beneath" as Hal Draper presents in his work "The Two Souls of Socialism"3 in which he also refers to Morris.
