Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject Orientalism / Sinology - Miscellaneous, grade: A+, , course: Geography of Korea, 10 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Due to the task of analyzing a popular Korean movie concerning the geographic aspects involved, the movie "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter ... and Spring" directed by Ki-Duk Kim in 2003 was chosen. It is an interesting and convincing movie, also shown on international film festivals, which tells the story of the life of a Korean Buddhist monk from his early childhood to the late time of his life, as well as from his time as a novice to his own enlightenment as a master. The aim of this paper is to analyze the movie regarding geographical aspects and show the relation to the plot of the story. As this is a movie, which benefits from the impressing pictures of the nature that play a key role for the story, several aspects of geography can be displayed. As already mentioned in the title of the movie, there are five parts, which play a special role, each of them showing a different stage in the monks life and being an episode of the film. These five scenes will be analyzed individually and then all scenes will be compared in a conclusion, where also the main findings on the film and its geographic aspects will be indicated. The aspects concerning geography are predominantly the changing seasons, but there will also be some others, which will be introduced later on.

Thus, as part of the geography of Korea, the Demilitarized Zone, which separates North Korea and South Korea, was chosen. This place is especially interesting for German people because for nearly 40 years one of the most obvious cases of spatial segregation through ideologies was Germany¿s separation manifested in the Berlin Wall. The aim of this paper is to give an overview over the most important aspects related to the Demilitarized Zone. Therefore, in the main part some basic facts about South and North Korea will be introduced, followed by an analysis of the zone itself, which is separated in two parts. The first part deals with the history of the separation of the Koreas, while the second part describes the location. At the end of the paper a conclusion will be drawn.

Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 1,0, Dresden Technical University, course: HS Outstanding Film Directors, language: English, abstract: In this paper for the seminar ¿Outstanding Film Directors¿ I want to analyze two movies by Joel and Ethan Coen, namely "Fargo" (1996) and "The Big Lebowski", its successor from the year 1998. After introducing the movies along with their characters, storylines, symbolism, and other relevant issues, I am planning on pointing out to what extend they are similar and typically ¿Coen-esque¿, and how they differ. Special attention will be paid to the kidnapping-theme used in both movies, to the display of violence, and to the stylistic devices, especially to those that define the various genres (detective story, western, etc.) utilized by the directors. The way the Coens play with the expectations of their viewers and critics is also supposed to be a topic of this work. However, before I begin my paper, I would like to introduce the directors to the reader. Joel and Ethan Coen, often referred to as the Coen brothers or the ¿two-headed director¿, were born in St. Louis Park, Minnesota in 1954 and 1957 respectively. While Joel is always credited as the director, Ethan only appears as the producer. In reality though, both of them write, direct, and produce their movies, and also do the cutting, which might be one reason for their aforementioned nickname. Moreover, this fact underlines the humongous influence they have on the resulting product, as all the crucial production steps are carried into execution by them. It also explains the perfectionism to which they attach great importance. As the Coens have a clear vision of their movie-to-be and thus work hard at the preproduction, they will never accept improvisation. Rumor has it that every ¿yah¿ in Fargo was actually scripted (Kilzer, p. 167). It is common knowledge in the business that ad-lib performances are not something these two directors appreciate. Little is known about their private life because the Coen brothers set value on keeping it out of the public eye. But since they do not include self-depictions or references to their lives in their films, even though many critics suppose so, this fact will not prevent the subsequent discussion of the two named movies.

Oder handelt es sich beim XP um ¿hacking-as-usual¿, ein fröhliches Cowboy-Hacking schick verpackt hinter einem provokanten, avantgardistisch anmutenden Terminus? Die Antwort ist einfach ¿ die Antwort ist: Nein. XP ist ein strenges, sehr viel Disziplin erforderndes Vorgehensmodell für die Softwareentwicklung, was durch aktuelle Probleme im Bereich der Softwareentwicklung motiviert frischen Wind in die Diskussion über den grundsätzlichen Ablauf eines Entwurfsprozesses bringen konnte. Keine Frage ¿ XP ist anders. Das X aber steht nicht etwa für eXtremes Verhalten oder eXtremes Loslassen vom Herkömmlichen. Es steht auch nicht für eXtremes Risiko oder eXtremen Erfolg. Das X steht für die eXtreme Intensität, die dieses Verfahren von seinen Partizipanten verlangt, eXtreme Identifikation mit den Werten und ein möglichst eXtremes Umsetzen der operativen, durch das XP geforderten Instrumente. EXtrem bezieht sich auf Disziplin und fordert Teamfähigkeit und Kompetenz ¿ viel mehr als der Titel auf den ersten Blick zu suggerieren vermag. Was genau man hinter XP zu verstehen hat und wo genau dessen Einflüsse auf die Qualität vom Endprodukt ¿ der Software ¿ vermutet werden können, das ist Aufgabe und primäres Ziel dieser Auseinandersetzung. Dem Leser soll bewusst werden, wo sowohl die Befürworter als auch die Widersacher des XPs argumentativ ansetzen, wenn es um die Verteidigung respektive dem Angriff von bzw. gegen XP geht. Es liegt hierbei sicherlich keine vollständige Abhandlung über XP vor; das meiner Meinung nach Wichtigste wird hier erörtert. Um darüber hinaus das XP in die Welt der Softwarequalitätsbegriffe einordnen zu können, wird die Arbeit durch hinreichende Informationen zu diesem Thema mit einer strikten Hinführung zum XP begonnen. Für wen leistet XP welchen Beitrag bezüglich der Qualität eines Softwareproduktes und wie verspricht es, dieses zu gewährleisten? Ziel der Abhandlung ist es, hierfür eine plausible Antwort zu finden.

Seit der Verstetigung der Kontakte in den ersten Jahrhunderten der westlichen Zeitrechnung erlebte Ostasien mehrere Schübe intensivierter wirtschaftlicher, politischer und kultureller Integration.
