Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 3,0, University of Marburg (Institut für Anglistik und Amerikanistik), course: Transatlantic Stereotyping - Views From / About Both Sides of the Ocean, language: English, abstract: Criticism of Bryson¿s novels is not advanced but his narratives can be investigated in terms of genre, intertextuality, language, and nationality. This paper expands on the topic of Bryson¿s view both of Great Britain and the United States of America by means of national stereotyping as it emerges from his novels Notes from a Small Island (1995) and Notes from a Big Country (1998). I maintain that Bryson depicts Britain and America in an authentic and educative as well as hilarious and exaggerated manner to emphasize differences between the nations in question. I will prove my thesis that Bryson both criticises and praises British and American values which affect the national character. Bryson conveys his national views both from the perspective of an insider and outsider. William ¿Bill¿ McGuire Bryson was born in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1951. In 1973, he travelled to England where he became acquainted with his wife, Cynthia Billen, with whom he has four children. Bryson lived in Yorkshire, returned to America to graduate in 1995, and resided with his family in Norfolk, in 2003. While in America Bryson is well-known for elaborating on the English language, he accomplished bestseller standing with travelogues in Great Britain. Although he claims not to be a travel writer because he ¿stumbled into this genre¿, Bryson composes ¿books on travel and the English language¿ in which his ¿wanderlust and eccentricity¿ promise a unique reading adventure (Oder 191). Travel writing is a neglected but miscellaneous genre of ancient times which flourished in the sixteenth century and encompasses narratives of expansionism, such as encyclopaedic accounts of foreign nations, and became the principal negotiator of propagating stereotypes in colonial novels. While Bryson¿s journey novel Notes from a Small Island depicts the Great Britain he adores, he grudgingly wrote columns about America which resulted in his journalistic novel Notes from a Big Country.

Intermediate Examination Paper aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Politik - Int. Politik - Thema: Sonstiges, einseitig bedruckt, Note: 2,3 (B), Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, 30 Eintragungen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Englisch, Abstract: Winston Churchill coined the term Special Relationship in his famous speech in Fulton, Missouri in 1946. This term characterises the unparalleled close Anglo-American relations during the Second World War and in the time thereafter. The shared perception that Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union constituted major external threats to their well-being bound the societies and leaderships of Great Britain and the United States together. The looming menace ceased to exist after the break-up of the Soviet Union and the demise of Communism, and for several authors so did the raison d¿être of the Special Relationship as well. It was more however that brought these two countries together than the shared perception of a communist threat. Why is it that "neither country has fully adjusted its mind to thinking of the members of the other society as foreigners", and that Americans still refer to Britain as the "mother country" every now and then? Why do certain authors call Britain the "fortified outpost of the Anglo-Saxon race" or the "unsinkable aircraft carrier"? And is it just by chance that fictional author George Orwell calls Britain "Airstrip One" and associates it with North America in his novel "1984"? Is it a coincidence or are these - admittedly vague - expressions signs of subtle yet overarching bonds between the two countries? This work will analyse and discuss various aspects of Anglo-American relations. The apparent cooperation in the fields of foreign and security policy will be assessed, as well as the more disguised realm of military and intelligence collaboration. Following is a chapter about two aspects that dominate our time, economy and business in the Anglo-American relationship. The last chapter attempts to illuminate the obscure field of "private" relations between the Anglo-American nations, as well as the importance of the personal relationships between the individual Presidents and Prime Ministers. For a better understanding of Anglo-American Affairs the common backgrounds of the two countries are assessed historically, culturally and in terms of language. The question or the leitmotif on which this work is be based asks whether the concept of a Special Relationship in current Anglo-American relations is still a de facto reality or just a myth, that lingers on from the shared experience of the two World wars: Does the weary British Lion still enjoy a remarkably "special" relationship with the almighty American Eagle?

Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Economic and Social History, grade: 1,0, European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) (Lehrstuhl für Wirtschafts- und Sozialgeschichte der Neuzeit), course: The Great Divergence. History and Legacy of Industrialization in Europe and Asia, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this paper is the discussion of a recent article presented by Joel Mokyr who offered, according to his own words, a new ¿variant of the European Miracle question¿1. The main thesis of his article The Great Synergy: the European Enlightenment as a factor in Modern Economic growth points to the European Enlightenment as being a crucial factor for attaining and establishing modern, i.e. sustainable economic growth in Europe once the British Industrial Revolution had overcome its humble beginnings at the end of the eighteenth century. Mokyr argues that the stability of economic growth which was reached in Europe after 1825 was to a great extent due to a new attitude towards the relation between technology and progress. This new attitude was the result of a development that had its roots in the European Enlightenment where the foundations for a new understanding of science and technology were laid. The outcome of this development was the unique ¿idea of research¿ that made scientists and craftsmen cooperate, giving way to a very fruitful convergence of science and technology that helped making sustainable economic growth possible. This evolution mingled with the modification of institutional mechanisms which was a result of the Enlightenment, too. These two trends both formed a ¿Great Synergy¿ that finally yielded the ¿European Miracle¿. To prove and strengthen his thesis, Mokyr compares the history of European sciences with those practiced in China coming to see that Chinese sciences were confined to and restricted by the Mandarin rulers, thus a situation similar to pre-enlightened Europe. But his comparisons to the Asian continent are limited to the situation in China. It could therefore be telling to have a look at Indian sciences, especially when discovering that India ¿had a wellestablished scientific and technological tradition of its own long before being subjected to an extended period of European colonial rule¿2. Going deeper into Indian history we will see, that on top of that, before the colonization by the British, ¿traditional knowledge generated large-scale economic productivity for Indians¿3. Departing from these considerations, the present paper will put Mokyr¿s assumption under inspection examining the Indian history of science and technology. The arising problem is thus twofold, implicating questions that are clearly inter-related with each other and which are touching fields both of science and economy. [...]

Diploma Thesis from the year 2009 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1, Bournemouth University, course: MBA, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this research was to investigate how women in senior management positions combine a successful career and family life. The research was conducted in Austria, Denmark and the UK, and qualitative data was collected via a series of semi-structured interviews. Through this research different types of support, including women¿s priorities and values, as well as their abilities have been discussed with the aim to find out how they manage their work-life balance. Additionally, interactions between professional and private life have been considered in order to explore if there is a connection between work-life balance and work performance. The research findings indicated that there are some historical and cultural problems as well as individual circumstances which make it difficult to combine work and family life. Women manage their time effectively and organise everything, but managing multiple roles is a complex challenge, which requires sophisticated solutions. Women need support from their family; help from their partners and companies¿ flexibility are identified as the most important things to reach a satisfactory work-life balance. Additionally, childcare has to be provided by the government or organised privately so that women can focus on their careers. This study concluded that women have to invest considerable personal resources, such as time and energy in order to achieve a satisfactory work-life balance through their career life cycle. In addition, evidence suggested that a satisfied work-life balance has a positive impact on work performance. Further research recommendations have been given as well as a pragmatic self-generated model.

Essay from the year 2009 in the subject Communications - Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media, grade: A, Ohio University (E.W. Scripps School of Journalism), course: International and Crosscultural Advertising, language: English, abstract: What started as one of the biggest and most expensive campaigns in the German automobile industry, almost ended in a disaster for the company. The result was the biggest crisis, a German automobile company had ever faced. Mercedes-Benz is a high-class automobile company. Its products stand for luxury, reliability and dependability. But high-class cars are expensive and only affordable for the richer part of society. To keep pace with the fast developing automobile industry all over the world, Mercedes-Benz decided to invent car that reunites all three values, the company embraces. This car ¿ the Mercedes-Benz A-Class ¿ should have another important feature: It is affordable for the middle class. With this car, Mercedes was approaching a new market segment and therefore new target audiences. A campaign, that fits the new car in the overall Mercedes image, was crucial. In May 1996 Mercedes Benz started its huge advertising campaign ¿ almost one and a half years prior to the official product launch on October 18th 1997. More than 100 million Euro will this launching campaign cost the company. Despite that the campaign only ran in the European market, the Mercedes-Benz brand and this specific campaign caught international attention. Newspapers from all over the world accompanied the A-Class until its official launch. These newspapers were also there, when the crisis occurred, that almost harmed the company on a long-term basis. Right after the launch, the car, that was supposed to be innovative, reliable and safe, failed in the so called ¿moose-test¿. After almost two years of positive media coverage, a flood of criticism followed. Due to the high level of awareness for the car, the public was now also aware of the safety issues the Mercedes A-Class had. What followed was another campaign. The goals were to safe the image of the company, to deal with the crisis and to re-launch the A-Class half a year later. The campaign analysis explains why Mercedes had to take the approach and step into the market segment of small cars. In addition, the launching campaign and its four phases: Big Bang, New Perspectives, New Choices, and New Experiences, will be explained in detail. The second part will cover the crisis that occurred after the launch of the A-Class and the re-launch in 1998. Finally, the analysis will show whether this incident harmed the image of the company on a long-term basis, and how advertising influenced this development.

Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: 1,3, University of Duisburg-Essen (Mercator School of Management), course: Internationalisierung von Unternehmen, language: English, abstract: Foreign direct investment has often been of great importance for developing countries and countries in transition. These countries develop various strategies to attract FDI, one of which includes the taxation attractiveness. This paper deals with the impact of international taxation on investment location choice of multinational firms. General aspects of taxation of the FDI destination country and the source country are looked close upon. Such general tax factors like corporate income tax rate, indirect taxes and tax law transparency, as well as tax incentives and taxation in the investor¿s home country, play an important role for a multinational¿s investment location decision, especially for the decision of footloose industries like export-oriented firms or manufacturing companies. Further, bilateral tax treaties including provisions of foreign tax credits, exemptions and tax savings affect the investor¿s tax planning, since they may alleviate or completely eliminate the problem of double taxation. Tax avoidance is also an important factor described in the paper. High tax rates, tax incentives and tax treaties may encourage multinational firms to use tax avoidance strategies in order to qualify for tax incentives or extend received ones, or to carry out profit reallocations.

Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1, University of Innsbruck (Department of English), course: The Irish Literary Revival, language: English, abstract: Love was one of William Butler Yeats¿s great inspirations. It was love that kept him moving and developing. It was love that confused him and made him reflect. It was love that shattered him and made him mourn. Yeats¿s experience with love was rich and fulfilling as well as frustrating and devastating. In order to come to a better understanding of Yeats¿s love poetry, we need to take a look into his private life: ¿Yeats met the fiery revolutionary [Maud Gonne] in 1889. He fell deeply in love with her and would propose to her in 1891, 1899, 1900, 1901, and 1916. Gonne had no use for Yeats's proposals. However, she did have a use for his talents. Gonne would use Yeats for his ability as an orator. Maud Gonne, dragging him at her heels on nationalist agitations, soon found that he was a natural orator and could easily dominate committees. Maud Gonne would continue to turn Yeats proposals down, yet she continued to be the catalyst for the finest love poetry Yeats would ever create. Gonne would once ask for Yeats's help in London, ending a brief but happy love affair with Olivia Shakespear. Sensing divided loyalty, Shakespear would end the affair and it was shortly thereafter that Lady Gregory would save Yeats from a potentially more tragic end, like the poets of the tragic generation¿ (cf. nadn.navy). Yeats really loved Maud Gonne. She was the love of his life, and still, she would never really react to, let alone return his love. Yeats has experienced the many different facets of love through this continuous interaction between his everlasting true and sincere affection and dedication and her cold and calculating rejection. But although this may be a personal tragedy it also resulted in something positive and beautiful, namely Yeats¿s love poetry Maud Gonne inspired him to. Yeats managed to deal with all his positive and negative experiences in a productive way and included them into his poetry. Maud Gonne once even said to him that she could not stop rejecting him as he would not write such beautiful poetry about her anymore then. As said, Yeats¿s perception and concepts of love can be identified in his poetry. Furthermore, we can identify a development of Yeats¿s depiction of love in his poetry. We can find many different sides of love in Yeats¿s poems. In some poems, Yeats describes it as an almost divine power. In other poems, he starts doubting whether love is really that fulfilling or not. And in further poems, he even focuses on the dark and destructive sides of love. These different concepts of love will be described in this paper through the analysis of selected poems.

Facharbeit (Schule) aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Didaktik - Englisch - Erörterungen und Aufsätze, Note: 2-, Städt. Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium, Mettmann, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In the past few years a great number of social networks have appeared on the internet. Though the term ¿social network¿ seems to be something new, something, associated with the world wide web and new technologies, social networks have existed ever since men have. Any interacting group of people can be considered a social network and is defined by the relationships between the individuals. That makes it really interesting to find a system that was part of our lives from the cradle of humankind, being faced with such a young invention called the internet. What they all have in common is that they try to connect people by providing a platform meant to help users communicate in the most convenient and entertaining way possible or by providing a matchless network service that specialises in a particular area (e.g. music or news). I decided to write a research paper about social networks on the internet because I could hardly distinguish whether my own use of such services is either beneficial or reprehensible. These days, new services on the internet that promise to be very entertaining or apparently have a high potential to improve or simplify the way we work and communicate seem to be very attractive to a wide range of internet users. While some people are quite sceptical about online services like social networks, others tend to use them without even considering any potential risks. Are they just blinded by the revolutionary possibilities based on the ¿Web 2.0¿, or do we actually not have anything to fear? The social network Facebook will serve as my basic example for the analysis of social networks because it is the most used and thereby most discussed social network on the world wide web; its structure also generally represents other, similar networks. These social networks are surprisingly entertaining, especially for younger people. But can we trust a completely new way of communication? Considering that almost all social networks are completely free, the question comes up how they can be financed. Do social networks help us organise our lives by providing virtual groups, calendars and event managers? Will these groups even be able to represent political interests? And what about the lack of privacy social networks possibly promote? Among other aspects, I want to deal with the above-mentioned questions by analysing the way social networks operate and weighing the benefits and disadvantages of social networks on the internet.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich VWL - Konjunktur und Wachstum, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: 1. Introduction More than ever corporate growth is a central topic in the business management debate of research and corporate practice. Indicators for that are the great numbers of newly released books on this topic as well as the fact that growth is the main theme of almost every annual general meeting. The bigger significance of corporate growth is related to the fact that sustainable performance increases can only be achieved by positive changes in a company. As a consequence, many managers feel corporate growth is the solution. However, growth is not a universal remedy. It is very decisive how the company grows. The initial situation of a company, the direction of growth, the availability of management capacities as well as the height and the consistency of growth has to fit together, in order for the strategy to be successful. Growth strategies of companies can have different objectives. They can aim at improving their product innovation, increasing in diversification, internationalization, raising customer figures and sales2. The primary goal of companies is to achieve growth of sales in combination with growth of profits. Hereto, Allan Stewart, former CEO of the billion-dollar company GTE in Stanford (USA) said: "Holen wir zuerst den Umsatz, dann machen wir ihn profitable"3. This paper will examine growth strategies in the context of sales increases. At the beginning "corporate growth as a strategy" will be assessed, which is vital for the further discussion. However, the main focus is on the implementation of sales growth strategies and therefore I assume a successful company is seeking to increase its sales in the medium-term. Similarly, I will look at circumstances that may jeopardize sales increases.

Seminar paper from the year 1998 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Culture and Applied Geography, grade: 1,0 (A), Humboldt-University of Berlin (Institute for Anglistics/ American Studies), course: Great Britain and Europe - Great Britain in Europe, language: English, abstract: The British attitude towards Germany seems to be ambiguous: there are still many World War II movies on television, there are serious newspaper articles and hostile tabloid cartoons, unfriendly governmental memos and ¿ last but not least ¿ advertising: The people dealing with this issue are of different political background. Therefore, they have contradictory intentions and express either friendly or hostile opinions: Nevertheless, certain stereotypes of Germans are recurrent, regardless of which attitude is represented. The two following lists of German attributes have only recently been compiled: The first one is the result of the Chequers-Conference in March 1990, when Margaret Thatcher discussed the aspects of German reunification with some confidants: The Conference¿s consensus on ¿eternal¿ German characteristics was : ¿insensitivity to the feeling of others, [...] aggressiveness; assertiveness, bullying, egotism [...].¿ The memo was not designed to be published, therefore one can assume that the participants spoke frankly. Several other ¿German¿ features can be found in a poll in which students were asked about national characteristics: According to the majority, Germans are: "orderly, (disciplined, organises, efficient, obedient to rules, inflexible, punctual); hard-working, (laborious and ambitious); arrogant (particularly in intellectual matters); complex (difficult to understand, Angst-ridden)". My paper will focus on the occurrence of several of these images in advertising, especially in four campaigns released between 1993 and 1997: Three of them deal with German products promoted for German consumers, one of them deals with a British product for the British market but refers to Anglo-German conflict in order to tell its story. We will see that especially the stereotypical German virtues (as mentioned above) are applied in order to emphasise the value of the goods. In contrast, one example shows how negative images are used to show British superiority.

Essay from the year 2008 in the subject Politics - Political Theory and the History of Ideas Journal, grade: 80%=good, University of Kerala (Department of Political Science), course: Modern Political Analysis, language: English, abstract: Few people would deny that they are living in an age of great transformational processes. For centuries, if not millennia, the changes in human society had occurred slowly and usually did not affect the lives of the majority of the people significantly. That is not to say that the event of a war, a draught or another catastrophe did not have devastating consequences and indeed it were predominantly the ordinary people who suffered the most if such an event took place. The conducting of life however remained unaffected and continued as it had before. Scientific inventions were rarely made and if they did happen it was only a small privileged section of society benefiting from them. Whatever influenced the life of most people occurred gradually, making it both possible and easy to adjust. It could even be argued that because these influences did not have an impact during a person¿s lifespan but developed over generations people failed to recognize them as changes at all. This has profoundly changed in the age of globalization that has already shaped the economic, social, and cultural lives of hundreds of millions of people. The majority of them may not be able to clearly identify these changes but they would all agree that something is happening in their lives. The feeling evolving out of this is one of uncertainty; there are both greater opportunities and greater risks. The previous era had already witnessed the transformation that industrialization brought about and it provoked sharp reactions. Industrialization not only transformed people¿s lives it changed the character of warfare as well and the 20th century had to endure the consequences. Technology brought many improvements but people start to realize that there is a flipside to everything. In a somewhat dialectical sense we cannot take the benefits of something while at the same time hope to avoid the ramifications. The world today has not just become smaller; it also turns out to be far more complex and diverse than any philosopher could have possibly imagined. Postmodernism can be conceived as a movement directed at both diversity and complexity but it may not provide a satisfying answer. Instead, its simple but yet powerful message may be that all we can do is accept the actual condition. This paper attempts to outline the development of postmodernism as a reaction to Modernity, and to analyze some of the implications this reaction brings about.

Essay from the year 2007 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, grade: 1,0, University of Gloucestershire, language: English, abstract: In times of Globalization and Internationalization major national companies become "global" in terms of structure, purchase or production. Great "geopolitical" supra national bodies like the European Union ( EU ) play an important role in terms of regulating trade-traffic or improving the economic standard for its members. The multinational aircraft manufacturer, Airbus S.A.S, is a good example to emphasize how corporate goals do not always equate with EU ideals. The purpose of this report is to identify those disputes relating to the current cost reduction program of Airbus called "Power 8". By handling the agenda the lead question will be discussed. Recommondations in the last part mention proposals concerning political issues in regional and environmental policy. As a whole this report gives an overview concerning the disputes of a margin orientated company and the EU with the economic interest of all its members.

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Business economics - Personnel and Organisation, grade: 1,3, University of applied sciences, Neuss, language: English, abstract: 1. Introduction 1.1 Focus of this scientific abstract Today's extremely competitive global market place requires a greater level of competences and skills of sales staff. Especially in times of financial crisis and a high degree of uncertainty, customers demand mutual trust and sales professionals. They expect to receive individualized solutions to their problems and not as 30 years ago a nice smile and a warm welcome. As this relies on all service industries, we defined the financial sector as the focus of our scientific abstract, in order to narrow the mass down and to create a comparable basis. The over 200 identified competencies in over 30 categories that are required for an efficient selling, explain the complexity of the selling process . Therefore, the need of implementing a human resource development program is quite obvious. The question of the right approach to this problem will be specified by the following hypothesis: Coaching - Efficiency enhancement and motivation? - Effects of coaching on sales staff In the course of this scientific abstract we are going to examine this hypothesis by referring both to the theory and the practice, represented by Atradius AG and Commerzbank AG. Atradius is the second largest credit insurance company in the world, therefore mostly a global player. Commerzbank is the leading German universal bank with the focus on small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and private customers. Both are eminent organizations of the financial sector and highly dependent on the quality and profitability of their sales staff. 1.2 General definition of coaching Although there is no single agreed upon the definition of the term 'coaching', numerous [...]

Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject History Europe - Other Countries - Modern Times, Absolutism, Industrialization, grade: ECTS 8, University of Groningen, course: M.A. "Euroculture", language: English, abstract: This paper attempts to follow the cultural channels and actual steps taken by Peter the Great and his successors to cultivate Western European tastes in Russia and to direct the Russian Empire to a Western path of development. It investigates the historic role of St. Petersburg as Russiäs ¿window on Europe¿, and features the great masterworks of Western European art (namely, Dutch) assembled and prized in the Hermitage by the Romanov dynasty, by Peter the Great and by his spiritual follower and enlightener - Catherine the Great, in particular. Over the course of centuries, Russian tsars continuously borrowed ideas and concepts from their Western neighbors. St. Petersburg was to mark the way for Russia to become modern by creating an environment that could be maintained only by broader and deeper contact with the West. However, Peter Rietbergen in his essay on ¿Russia between West and East¿ stresses ¿the inherent duality in Russian culture, and in the national character, as half-Asian, half-European¿. This issue is to be discussed and evaluated in the paper. A chronological overview of the main acquisitions of Dutch paintings to the Hermitage in the course of the XVIII century is included in the paper. It is hoped that the paper will add to the understanding of the described epoch of the Russian Empire and will expose the role it played in defining its path of historical development. The thesis statement investigated in the paper is as follows: ¿Has the borrowing of cultural values from Western Europe contributed to the Europeanization of Russia in the XVIII century?¿ Under the term ¿cultural values¿ artefacts, objects of art, enlightening ideas and books, as well as progressive reforms, European fashion and lifestyle, etc are implied. One of the aims of the research is to demonstrate that art which has been broadly studied from divergent viewpoints of style, content, iconography, philosophy, and the social sciences, can also be approached as a function of economic and socio-political motives. A method of comparative analysis of the Westernizing cultural policies by Peter I and later, by Catherine II is used.

Essay from the year 1999 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 1,5 (A), University of Tubingen (American Studies), course: PS I Literatur - Introduction to Literature Studies with the example of the american drama, language: English, abstract: This term paper will show to what a great extent society is influenced by men. I suggest that in Marsha Norman¿s play ¿Getting Out¿ her protagonist Arlene would never have faced so many problems in life, let alone would have become criminal, if men did not possess such a great power over society. Men being in power throughout the world was certainly the worst thing that could ever have happened in human history, Arlene being a representative of all the women living and having lived on earth, even if a very extreme one. But in favor of men, I claim that men are not really guilty either because society has become autonomous and cannot be controlled anymore. The basis for my thesis is Gretchen Cline¿s essay entitled ¿The Impossibility of Getting Out ¿ The Psychopolitics of the family in Marsha Norman¿s Getting Out¿ which contains feminist, psychoanalytic and existential frameworks to show Arlene Holsclaw¿s oppression within a family that parallels the institutions that bind her. Cline herself uses Walter Davis¿ theory of the ¿crypt¿ to analyze Arlene¿s familial and the subsequent social scapegoating in order to show how women are shaped by a society in which the most moral institutions, such as family and religion, justify violation and oppression.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2008 in the subject Computer Science - Internet, New Technologies, grade: 1,3, University of Bremen, course: Mediainformatics, language: English, abstract: This Bachelor-Thesis deals with the synchronisation of social network services. This type of internet application enjoys great popularity which results in new challenges for identity and relation management. On one side the user has to manage different identities and on the other side a friendslist per social network service. From this effort arose to make data portable and reusable for example in order to avoid re-declaring friends to every site. To accomplish this goal numerous projects and technologies have been developed, which already provide partial solutions for this problem. The basic conceptual question however how to deal with the problem generally is still open. Moreover some of the techniques are only suitable for special use cases or else not ready für a professional use. In this thesis some of the existing standards shall be used to tie them together to one total system. This system consists out of a central identity provider, which functions as a central storage for the users contact data. By utilising interfaces this contact data can be exchanged with the social network service and by that improves the relation management for the users.
