Weigel‹s Christological works met with interest outside of the German-speaking countries as well very early on. A Dutch translation of the homiletic pamphlet ›Von Betrachtung des Lebens Christi‹ (A Reflection on the Life of Christ), written in 1574, was published in 1647 and 1686. An English translation of the comprehensive work ›Vom Leben Christi‹ (On the Life of Christ), written in 1578, which advocated religious freedom and rejected the disputes between the confessions, in part with a purpose of polemic, was published in 1648. There are only extant fragments of the ›De vita Christi‹; which is in the appendix, a compilation in German based on various Weigel texts.

This volume traces the external and internal history of the Academy Plato‹s school, up to the time of Cicero (and up until its official closing in 529 AD) and focuses on the question of how much was known of the teachings of Plato and his followers in the 1st century BC, i.e. what were the foundations of knowledge which formed the basis of Platonism as it emerged during the early imperial period. Dörrie comes to the conclusion that "the tradition established by Plato had suffered several breaks.» As a consequence, Platonism of the imperial period did not have its origins in the Academy but instead had to be newly established outside it.

Kant's logic lectures are anything but a special course of lectures on the problems of logic. They are more like a first introduction to philosophy in general and in a unique way they reflect the intellectual world of the German Enlightenment. In the third volume of the Kant Index, a transcript of such a logic lecture is broken down lexically for the first time. As a result of this, the language and terminology of Enlightenment philosophy in the 18th century are readily accessible. The Logik Blomberg (Blomberg Logic) goes back to the beginning of the seventies and is thus one of the earliest of the completely extant transcripts. Together with the first two volumes of the Kant Index, this index volume is an important resource for understanding the variety of references in the lecture notes, the compendium which Kant used and the reflections in the literary remains on logic. The repeatedly discussed questions pertaining to the reliability, the origins and the age determination of the transcripts are thus at least somewhat closer to being solved. With the aid of comprehensive lists of typographical errors and errors in transcription, emendations and conjectures, several hundred errors in Volume XXIV of the Academy edition have also been corrected on the basis of the transcript.

In the 18th century there was a surprisingly large amount of interest in the thinker, author and human being David Hume (1711–1776); and this interest reflected the entire range of requirements and goals of the German Enlightenment. To begin with, the focus was on Hume‹s theories of the philosophy of religion, theories which were rejected without exception and often only polemically repudiated. Just when there was a chance of having an objective assessment of Hume‹s work, Kant revolutionized philosophy, and Hume was seen merely as the factor which triggered Kant‹s metaphysics. The controversial question of when and in which of his works Hume interrupted Kant's dogmatic slumber is brought to a head, and thus at the same time a new theory pertaining to Kant's philosophical development is presented.

Richard Koch (1882–1949) was one of the most important medical theoreticians and historians of the 20th century. He was in addition a co-founder of the Free Jewish School in Frankfurt am Main, which was established by Franz Rosenzweig. Koch‹s unfinished memoirs, published here for the first time, were written in Soviet emigration. Although they basically end in 1911, many of them are however written from the perspective of the experience of National Socialism. Remarks on Judaism and Germany‹s social position show Koch to be an acute observer of the events at that time. The particular significance of his memoirs lies in the description of medicine in a phase of reorientation. Koch studied and worked with some of the most influential and inventive clinicians of his time: Ernst [Schweninger{Schweninger, E.}, Ludolf von [Krehl and August Bier. The autobiographical notes document the study of these experiences against the backdrop of reflections on philosophy and medical theory and describe Koch‹s path to his theory of medicine.
