Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2008 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: Near East, Near Orient, grade: 1,7, University of Heidelberg, language: English, abstract: The political earthquake that shook Israel in November 2006 eventually led to the establishment of a new party with a centre image, KADIMA, led by then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Only four months later, after a lot of political turmoil (domestic as well as external), including losing its charismatic leader as Sharon fell into a coma, KADIMA entered the Knesset as the largest party, and its new leader, Ehud Olmert, formed the new government. Never before had an Israeli centre party been this successful. While political parties, party systems and party positioning along the left-right continuum have been subject to research by scholars of political science, the phenomenon of the centre party has been neglected until recently. Maurice Duverger¿s verdict that ¿the centre does not exist in politics,¿ seems to have had a devastating effect on centre party research: there is no universal definition and hardly any theoretical groundwork on which to base an analysis of past and contemporary centre parties. This thesis seeks to make a contribution to the quest for such a universal definition by proposing one of its own. It is partly drawn from the findings of others, such as Hans Daalder and Reuven Hazan, combining several features proposed for centre parties in general research as well as research on Israeli parties in particular. It analyzes the phenomenon of KADIMA in conjunction with former Israeli centre parties and the general changes in the Israeli political system. The research question guiding the analysis is: Why was Kadima in the elections 2006 so much more successful than any other Israeli centre party had ever been before? This is in no way the final word on centre parties in the Israeli party system, but it hopefully proves to be another step towards a more thorough understanding of the dynamics of Israeli parties. The fact that a genuine centre has emerged in Israeli society might be of great consequence for the political system (irrespective of KADIMA and its survival as a political party), but only time will show if the bickering and the scandals within KADIMA won¿t lead to the disappointment of its voters and their subsequent return to the parties of the blocs.

Seminar paper from the year 2003 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: South Asia, grade: 1.0 (A), University of Heidelberg (South Asian Institute for Political Science), course: State and Economy in South Asia, with the example of India, language: English, abstract: Many scholars expected India to drag her feet in the liberalization process, due to the opposition of economically weak groups, negatively affected by a globalized market economy, but politically empowered through institutions created by Indiäs long democratic tradition (Lanyi 2000). The missing of this resistance was one of the most puzzling experiences of the last ten years. Supplementing Rob Jenkins¿ popular thesis that India is going through a "reform by stealth" (Jenkins 1999) led by witty politicians, perfectly able to play the tunes of these various institutions, this article will provide a neo-institutionalist position with emphasize on the impact of the IMF¿s structural adjustments programme on the federal and local level, which led to a change in the formal as well as in the informal institutions themselves. There are four points in Jenkins¿ approach open to criticism and able to undermine the achievements of his research: a) the reductionist and static understanding of institutions b) the neglect of international entrepreneurs and structure influencing institutional policy c) the neglect of specific Indian "realities", forcing institutions to adapt in the face of liberalization d) the overemphasizing on the relevance of informal institutions and corruption as a means to achieve desired political outcomes. The thesis provided in this essay will be that the observed shift towards an increased directive ability of the central government is only a short-term phenomenon masking a steadily accelerating devolution of power that capacitates state- and local authorities to autonomously negotiate their self-interest in a globalized world over the long run. This process not only leads to an obvious need to redesign fiscal federalism, but will also call for an abolition of several centre-favouring precautions of Indian federalism.

The 4th International Conference on Electronic Engineering and Informatics (EEI 2022), co-organized by Shanghai Jiaotong University and Rai University and AEIC Academic Exchange Information Centre, will be held on June 24-26, 2022 in Guiyang, China. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd conference were successfully held in Nanjing, Lanzhou and Dali, China, respectively, and the conference proceedings have been successfully published by IEEE and JPCS. The EEI conference has gained a good reputation among scientists over the past years and each year attracts more and more participants from different scientific fields, from electrical engineering and informatics. The conference aims to encourage discussion and sharing of knowledge and experience between members of the scientific community, engineers, industry and academia from around the world. Since its inception, the conference has been attended by around 900 participants from academic and higher education institutions and other organisations. We hope that EEI will be an excellent forum for discussion, presenting new ideas and promoting collaborative research.
