The Feast of the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth was introduced in the fifteenth century and gradually found its way on to the Cistercian Calendar, where the chants took on a distinctively cistercian 'accent'. Most of its musical composition dates from the late 1400s, though the office as sung here represents a somewhat later stage of its development in the Order.
