Detaillierte Definitionen und die Aufarbeitung der sozialpsychologischen Aspekte der Wirkungsforschung finden sich in der zweiten Auflage, die das Fernziel der PR mit dem Einstellungsbegriff operationalisierte. Für die dritte Auflage dieses Buches habe ich mich auf den Begriff der Reputation als Fernziel der PR konzentriert und die Operationalisierung dieses Konstrukts dargestellt. Diese Entscheidung wurde vor allem durch die anhaltende Diskussion um die Begriffe Wertschöpfung und Repu- tion Management beeinflusst. Ausserdem haben die Erfahrungen gezeigt, dass die Einteilung in die Wirkungsstufen direkte Resonanz, Medienresonanz und Reputation besser mit der Praxis in Unternehmen und Organisationen korrespondiert. Die Situation hat sich im Vergleich zu 2002, als ich die Recherchen für die erste Auflage beendete, stark geändert. Es gibt zahlreiche neue Instrumente und der D- kurs ist (auch) durch die neuen „Social Media“ in Gang gekommen. Es bleibt zu hoffen, dass die Veränderungen sich auch bald in der Praxis niederschlagen und die Evaluation zum selbstverständlichen Teil jeder Kommunikationskampagne gehört. Mein Dank gilt vor allem meiner Mitarbeiterin Heike Kosubek, die mich tatkräftig bei der Aktualisierung und Erweiterung dieses Buches unterstützt hat.
