Vorliegender Krimi ist eine Besonderheit innerhalb des Paul-Temple-Universums, die selbst eingefleischten Fans unbekannt sein dürfte. Er basiert nämlich auf einem geplanten Hörspielmehrteiler, der niemals produziert wurde. 1957 wandelte Francis Durbridge gemeinsam mit seinem Co-Autor Douglas Rutherford das nie verwendete Radioskript zum Roman um. "Mr. Strassenfeger" bietet seinem Publikum hier alles, was eine typische Geschichte mit dem schreibenden Detektiv ausmacht: zahlreiche Verwicklungen, Irreführungen und Cliffhanger sowie die obligatorische Cocktailparty, in der der Mörder entlarvt wird. Ausserdem nimmt Durbridge hier schon ein Mordwerkzeug vorweg, das durch eine andere seiner Geschichten zu grossem Ruhm gelangte: ein Halstuch.
