Since 1980, the “Rossini Opera Festival” takes place every year in Pesaro. It is dedicated to Gioachino Rossini’s multi-faceted body of opera work. From 1810 until 1829 he composed 39 operas, many of which are the standard repertoire to the great opera houses around the world. In Pesaro, many lesser known gems from Rissoni’s oeuvre are presented with verve, pluck and elegance. In this, the 35th year of the Rossini Opera Festival, Arthaus Musik has gathered four highlights in its release of "Rossini Opera Festival Collection – Live From Pesaro". Going from Rossini’s first work, “Demetrio e Polibio”; to his “Sigismondo” – that was a bust at its premiere performance in 1814 and has slowly slipped into oblivion – to “Adelaide di Borgogna”; Rossini’s first serious opera, a work that the maestro of the opera buffa composed in 1817 and his late opera, “Le Comte Ory”; a smashing success in 1828 and on the programme of Opéra de Paris and other international stages for decades. Gioachino Rossinis erste ernste Oper entstand 1817 in Rom zur Eröffnung des Karnevals, erlebte nach ihrer Uraufführungsserie jedoch kaum Neuinszenierungen. Erst 2011 erfuhr das Werk beim Rossini Festival in Pesaro eine Neuinszenierung mit dem Chor und Orchester des Teatro Communale di Bologna unter der Leitung von Dmitri Jurowski seine erst dritte Bühnenaufführung. Daniela Barcellona, die bereits in einigen Rossini Hosenrollen auf der Bühne stand, brilliert hier als Ottone. In der Rolle der Adelaide gibt die Sopranistin Jessica Pratt ihr vielversprechendes Debüt neben Bodgan Mihai und Nicola Ulivieri. Der erste Italienfeldzug von Otto dem Grossen im frühen Mittelalter dient als Handlungshintergrund der Geschichte der Titelheldin, die zwischen politischer Korruption und der Liebe zweier Männer für ihr Volk kämpft. 150 Jahre italienische Einheit waren Regisseur Pier'Alli Anlass genug, seine Inszenierung in die Zeit der Unabhängigkeitskriege zu verlegen und eine moderne Variante zu schaffen, in der frühe Elemente der Oper auf beinahe ironische Weise mit denen des Mittelalters verknüpft werden. Nicht zu vergessen seine einzigartigen Videoinstallationen, die eine wunderschön abstrakte Welt zu Rossinis farbenfroher Musik kreieren. Famous ballads, arias and duets from VERDI, PUCCINI, ROSSINI, VIVALDI, BELLINI, SCARLATTI, LARA, STRADELLA, TOSTI A mere three weeks after his much-acclaimed return to operatic and concert performance at the Salzburg Festival in August 1989, José Carreras appeared in another important musical event – a joint concert with his Spanish compatriot, singer Montserrat Caballé, held in Moscow’s famous Bolshoi Theatre. For this concert, the two singers put together a programme that was extremely colourful and varied and at the same time tasteful and well-balanced. The concert opens with a medley of baroque and belcanto gems from the 17th and 18th centuries, including a rendition by José Carreras of arie antiche by Alessandro Scarlatti. Italian and Spanish songs form a central element in the programme for this concert, including three canzoni by Francesco Paolo Tosti and one by Salvatore Cardillo, which are favourites from Carreras’ concert repertoire. These popular Italian songs are matched by several Spanish canciones popolares, sung by Montserrat Caballé. Last but not least, José Carreras and Montserrat Caballé could not be expected to neglected opera - even though it is a genre that is not central to this particular programme. It is represented by “Brindisi”; Violetta and Alfred’s champagne-fuelled drinking song from Act I of Verdi’s La Traviata, and Lauretta’s enchanting aria from Puccini’s one-act opera Gianni Schicchi.

Rossini Prague Chamber Choir Conductor: Corrado Rovaris Chorus Master: Lubomir Matl "Interpreten" Lisinga - Maria Jose Moreno Demetrio-Siveno - Victoria Zaytseva Demetrio-Eumene - Yijie Shi Polibio - Mirco Palazzi Rossinis Erstlingswerk „Demetrio e Polibio“ ist bereits einige Jahre vor der Premiere im Mai 1812 entstanden. Wahrscheinlich schrieb es der 17jährige 1809/10, kurz vor seinem offiziellen Debüt von „la cambiale di matrimonio“. Sicher ist jedoch, dass „Demetrio e Polibio“ für die Familie Mombelli entstand. Vater Mombelli, ein vortrefflicher Tenor, hatte zwei Töchter, die Sopran bzw. KontraAlt sangen, seine Frau kümmerte sich um das Libretto. Ebenso verbürgt wie der Auftraggeber Mombelli ist auch der Erfolg, den die Oper bei ihrer Premiere in Rom hatte und die daraus resultierende Verbreitung im In-und Ausland. Für das Rossini Opernfestival in Pesaro 2010 hat Regisseur Davide Livermore in dieser Produktion der Accademia di Belle Arti di Urbino Rossinis Operndebüt in eine Spukgeschichte verwandelt, die sich nachts hinter der Bühne eines Opernhauses abspielt. Mit seinen phantasmagorischen Bildern kreiert Livermore eine prickelndanregende Atmosphäre. Das Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini unter der Leitung von Corrado Rovaris begleitet das ebenso junge wie umwerfend frisch agierende Ensemble.
