Als die Schola Cantorum Pro Musica Profana in Cantabrigiense am 8. Mai 1968 erstmals unter dem neuen Namen The King's Singers in der Queen Elizabeth Hall in London ein Konzert gab, wussten die Sänger wohl noch nicht, welch spektakulären Siegeszug das Ensemble vollziehen würde. Binnen kurzer Zeit erfolgten zahlreiche Auftritte in Grossbritannien und Engagements bei Künstlern wie Nana Mouskouri oder Ronny Corbett, so dass sich die internationale Musikszene zusehends für den Chor interessierte. Es folgten weltweite Konzerte in den grössten und bekanntesten Sälen, und die Plattenindustrie riss sich geradezu darum, das Ensemble für Aufnahmen zu engagieren. Auch heute, fünfzig Jahre nach ihrem Debüt und mehr als sagenhaften 150 produzierten Tonträgern, sind die King's Singers noch die Hälfte des Jahres auf Tour und fesseln die Zuhörerschaft nach wie vor, egal ob mit geistlichen oder weltlichen Konzertprogrammen. Auch wenn sich die Besetzung hin und wieder auf einzelnen Positionen geändert hat, konnte das Ensemble stets seinen individuellen Klang beibehalten und zählt zu einer festen und verlässlichen Grösse auf dem internationalen Musikmarkt. All dies ist Grund genug, das kommende Jubiläumsjahr gebührend zu feiern. Die Festivitäten beginnen bereits im November mit dem King's Singers Gold Album, das beim Hauslabel des Ensembles SIGNUM CLASSICS erscheint. Auf drei CDs ist das gesamte Programm der Konzertreihe 'Close Harmony, Spiritual & Secular Pieces' zu hören.
