Leo von Thun-Hohenstein setzte die ihm vom Kaiser gestellte Aufgabe als Unterrichtsminister von 1849–1860 trotz teils heftiger Widerstände um. Bis heute beeinflusst die Reform des Leo Thun-Hohenstein das österreichische Bildungswesen.
