These countries develop various strategies to attract FDI, one of which includes the taxation attractiveness. This paper deals with the impact of international taxation on investment location choice of multinational firms. General aspects of taxation of the FDI destination country and the source country are looked close upon. Such general tax factors like corporate income tax rate, indirect taxes and tax law transparency, as well as tax incentives and taxation in the investor¿s home country, play an important role for a multinational¿s investment location decision, especially for the decision of footloose industries like export-oriented firms or manufacturing companies. Further, bilateral tax treaties including provisions of foreign tax credits, exemptions and tax savings affect the investor¿s tax planning, since they may alleviate or completely eliminate the problem of double taxation. Tax avoidance is also an important factor described in the paper. High tax rates, tax incentives and tax treaties may encourage multinational firms to use tax avoidance strategies in order to qualify for tax incentives or extend received ones, or to carry out profit reallocations.

In years prior to the boom of the new economy, underpricing was explained by various theories, which have extensively been developed since decades. However, in the years 1998 to 2001 IPOs were overly underpriced, leading to assumptions about behavioural aspects and investor irrationality. Analysing a comprehensive dataset of 371 IPOs on the Frankfurter Börse between 1997 and 2007, this paper aims at providing evidence that the observed lower levels of initial returns in recent years can indeed be aligned with existing theories on the basis of rational behaviour of market participants. Firstly, the IPO process and its major participants will be presented followed by a review of relevant studies on the IPO phenomenon. In the next step, established underpricing theories are recapitulated. A descriptive analysis of the data sample points out the particularities concerning the company and transaction characteristics of the sample firms. In a last step, a regression analysis relates various proxies for information asymmetry to established underpricing theories. It gives reason to believe that the irrationality at the turn of the century has vanished and that underpricing can again be explained by established theories.

Im Auftrag des Kunden investiert die Fondsverwaltung dessen Gelder in bestimmte Anlageformen und ermöglicht somit, insbesondere auch für kleinere Beträge, eine Risikodiversifizierung und professionelle Auswahl der Titel. Der Investor zahlt für diese Leistungen eine Gebühr. Diese Vergütung kann sowohl eine fixe, erfolgsunabhängige als auch optional eine variable, erfolgsabhängige Komponente enthalten. Wird neben dem erfolgsunabhängigen auch ein erfolgsabhängiger Anteil gezahlt, so spricht man von der sog. Performance Fee. Durch die jeweils gewählte Vergütungsart entstehen spezifische Anreize, die Auswirkungen auf die Handlungen der Fondsmanager haben. Im Folgenden wird zunächst die Beziehung zwischen dem Investor und dem Fondsmanagement erläutert. Anschliessend werden die beiden Vergütungsformen, die erfolgsunabhängige und die erfolgsabhängige, dargestellt. Daraufhin werden die aus der Wahl der Vergütungsform entstehenden Anreize und deren Folgen auf die Handlungen der Portfoliomanager aufgezeigt. Abschliessend erfolgt eine zusammenfassende Beurteilung.
