Mit dem Vordringen der Ressourcen- und Kompetenzperspektive zeichnet sich seit etwa einem Jahrzehnt ein Umbruch im strategischen Management ab, der fundamentaler ist, als er zumeist dargestellt wird. Wenn, pointiert gesprochen, nicht mehr Produkte auf Märkten, sondern vielmehr die sie hervorbringenden Ressourcen und Kompetenzen den "Stoff darstellen, aus dem die Wettbewerbsvorteile sind", dann wird damit auch ein neues strategisches Weltbild entworfen -ein abstrakteres, mit weniger (konkreten) Handlungsempfehlungen versehenes, das dafür jedoch mit einem grösseren Nachhaltigkeitsversprechen ausgestattet ist. Deshalb überrascht es nicht, dass sich diese Perspektive trotz ihrer gestaltungsbezogenen "Unhandlichkeit" in der Praxis dennoch schnell verbreitet und -soweit überschaubar -mindestens die grösseren Unternehmen an Kompetenzstrategien arbeiten. So viel versprechend dieses neue strategische Weltbild auch erscheinen mag -noch ist es lückenhaft: Die industrieökonomische Grundlage der Ressourcenkonzepte ist unvollständig und wenig anwendungsfreundlich, und die gestaltungsfreundlicheren Kompetenzansätze kommen bislang fast ohne eine ausgearbeitete theoretische Basis aus. Ein Beispiel mehr also für den in der Managementlehre nur allzu bekannten "Spagat" zwischen Erklärung und Gestaltung. Anspruchs- und verdienstvoll zugleich ist deshalb das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit, das darin besteht, ein theoretisch fundiertes Modell zur Beschreibung und Erklärung des Kompetenzaufbaus zu entwickeln. Dazu wird zunächst der Diskussionsstand sorgsam und präzise analysiert und für die eigene Modellbildung aufgearbeitet. Mit dieser problemfokussiert entwickelten "Gesamtschau" auf die ressourcenbasierte Strategieperspektive wird zudem ein echter "added value" für all jenegeliefert, die einen fundierten Überblick gewinnen wollen.

Die Untersuchung der Möglichkeiten und die dargestellte Vorgehensweise in dieser Arbeit zeigt auf, dass es trotz gründungsspezifischer Herausforderungen im Rahmen des EM jungen KMU dennoch möglich ist, das Unternehmen in die Richtung einer effizienten Kundenorientierung zu bewegen und somit den zielführende Gedanken eines CRM-Systems zu bedienen. Hierzu steht ihnen ihr hoher Interaktionsgrad mit dem Kunden zur Verfügung. Die entscheidenden Aspekte der Kenntniserlangung über Kundenbedürfnisse und Umsetzung einer hierauf ausgerichteten Unternehmensstrategie können in einem jungen Stadium des KMU auch durch einfache Kontaktmanagementsoftware in Verbindung mit einem ERP-System bewältigt werden, soweit der Einsatz von ERP überhaupt der Grösse eines KMU gemäss ist. Der Einsatz angepasster Standardsoftware ist zur besseren Interaktion zunächst ausreichend, da in den ersten Jahren einer KMU ihr Schwerpunkt auf dem Kundenkontakt und einer daran ausgerichteten der Unternehmensstruktur liegt. Damit kann auch eine Integration von Schlüsselkunden abgedeckt werden. Das EM leistet für KMU die Vorraussetzungen für eine gezielte Ansprache und flexible Ausrichtung ihrer Kommunikation am Customer-Touch-Point. Ein gezieltes Zusammenspiel zwischen direkter und indirekter Informationserlangung durch Interaktion und EM ermöglicht eine effiziente Ausrichtung des jungen KMU schon im Gründungsprozess. Die in der Arbeit beschriebene Vorgehensweise dient als ein mögliches Substitut für eine klassische CRM-Software. Es kann von jungen KMU mit einem geringeren finanziellen Einsatz bei einer allerdings höheren Belastung der im Unternehmen agierenden Personen laufend geschaffen werden. Da junge KMU stark Inhaber geführt sind, ist es wesentlich von deren Person und deren Lernfähigkeit und -bereitschaft abhängig und nicht von einer CRM-Software, ob eine Unternehmung wächst und langfristige Erfolge verzeichnen kann.
