For the first time completely new historical research in Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Germany, France, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and the USA is presented in this volume. The texts focus both on the Nazi loot of property and the exploitation of Slave and Forced Labour during World War II as well as on the complicated and limited restitution and compensation efforts after 1945. Several articles deal with the Nazi question in Latin America during and after World War II (including new evidence on Adolf Eichmann and the Austrian and German Nazis in exile) and the Historical Commission of Argentina. Since the mid 1990s, both the political, legal and historical debate concerning these topics has re-started and led to the establishment of nearly 30 historical commissions, starting with the Bergier-Commission in Switzerland. The work of several of these Commissions in Switzerland, Austria, Spain and Lithuania as well as similar efforts in Argentina are compared in this book. An unpublished extensive memoir of George Slazak, a young Pole, forced into the Nazi labour machinery as a child, who has survived one of the brutal Nazi Labour Education Camps in Austria, enlarges the academic and political debate into the personal perspective of millions of forced laborers.

Auch von einem Grossereignis wie der Fussball-Weltmeisterschaft 1998, die in Frankreich stattfand, liess sich die Tour nicht in die zweite Reihe verdrängen. Seit 90 Jahren steht die Tour de France für Triumphe, Tragödien und höchste körperliche und mentale Leistungen aller Teilnehmer. Sie ist das berühmteste Radrennen der Welt. Von Beginn an begleiteten die Medien die Tour de France. War es anfangs nur die schreibende Zunft, kam in den 50er Jahren das Fernsehen hinzu. Die Franzosen boten die Bilder von der Tour an, und auch das deutsche Fernsehen stieg in das Geschäft ein. Seit 1969 berichtet der Saarländische Rundfunk regelmässig von der Tour de France. Nachdem in den 80er Jahren - nach Didi Thurau - das Publikumsinteresse etwas nachgelassen hatte, stiegen die Zuschauerzahlen mit den Leistungen des Teams Telekom in den letzten Jahren sprunghaft an. Seit dem 2. Platz von Jan Ullrich 1996 und erst recht nach seinem Sieg ein Jahr später setzte in Deutschland ein Radsportboom ein. Während der Privatsender Eurosport seit 1989 in Live-Sendungen über die Tour informierte, wurde in den öffentlich-rechtlichen Sendeanstalten meist in einem Tagesresümee von der Tour de France berichtet. 1998 wurde erstmals die Tour ¿live¿ in der ARD übertragen. Drei Wochen lang sendet das Fernsehen täglich Tour de France. An einigen Tagen wird fünf Stunden nonstop live berichtet. Dutzende von Leuten sorgen hinter den Kulissen für einen reibungslosen Ablauf. Auf Sendung schliesslich sind nur zwei Kommentatoren. Zwar sitzen sie nicht mehr im Strassengraben wie einst Werner Zimmer, sondern in Kabinen im Zielraum, ihre Aufgabe ist die gleiche geblieben. Sie müssen das Produkt Tour de France den Zuschauern nahe bringen, auf das aktuelle Geschehen genauso eingehen wie auf Hintergründe. Der folgenden Untersuchung liegen Beiträge der drei Sendeanstalten zugrunde, die über die Tour de France 2000 berichten. ARD und ZDF haben sich die Berichterstattung im Wechsel aufgeteilt. Eurosport berichtete täglich über einen Zeitraum von drei Wochen. Die vorliegende Arbeit soll sich vor allem mit der Qualität der Berichterstattung bei der Tour de France 2000 befassen. Diese Untersuchung soll erstmals aufzeigen, ¿wie¿ und ¿was¿ die Kommentatoren im Zuge der Tour de France präsentieren.
