VAN CANTO überraschte die Metalszene 2006 mit ihrem revolutionären Ansatz, Metal nur mit Drums und Stimmen zu performen. 9 Jahre später, nach 5 Alben mit Top20-Charteinstiegen in Deutschland, ausverkauften Headliner-Touren in Europa und Festivalshows von Wacken bis Australien, startet Van Canto nun ein neues Kapitel in der Geschichte des "Metal A Cappellas": Vocal Metal Musical. "Vocal Metal Musical entwickelt das, was Van Canto auszeichnet, konsequent weiter. Unsere Stimmen können nicht nur singen und Gitarren imitieren, sie können auch Geschichten erzählen. Wir arbeiten seit 6 Jahren neben Van Canto an diesem Konzept und sind endlich so weit, es auf die Leute loszulassen", sagt Bandgründer Stef. Auf dem Album "Voices of Fire" geht Van Canto eine Kooperation mit dem deutschen Bestseller-Autor Christoph Hardebusch (u.a. "Die Trolle") ein, dessen neuer Roman "Feuerstimmen" parallel zur CD erscheinen wird. "Man kann hier gar nicht sagen, ob unser Album nun die Musik zum Buch ist, oder der Roman das Buch zur Musik. Wir haben hier wirklich Hand in Hand gearbeitet. Unsere Kompositionen haben den Roman beeinflusst und umgekehrt. Wir haben eine eigene Welt erschaffen, es geht um konkurrierende Königreiche, um große Schlachten, um Drachen, Feuer und Barden. Nicht immer alles bierernst, aber es kracht an allen Ecken und Enden und ist großes Kopfkino, eigentlich wie Van Canto auch", erklärt Leadsänger Sly, der gemeinsam mit Christoph Hardebusch die Rahmenhandlung des Romans entwarf. "Die enge Zusammenarbeit mit Van Canto hat zum einen viel Spaß gemacht, zum anderen war sie auch fordernd", fügt Autor Christoph Hardebusch hinzu. "Beim Zusammenspiel kreativer Kräfte entsteht ein großes Ganzes, das mehr als nur die Summe seiner Teile ist. Geschichte und Musik waren von Beginn an Teil einer Einheit, haben sich gegenseitig beeinflusst und verstärkt." Auf dem Konzeptalbum arbeiten Van Canto erstmals mit den London Metro Voices zusammen, die u.a. bei den Soundtracks der Megablockbuster der "Herr der Ringe" - Saga als Chor zu hören sind. "Es gibt inzwischen gerade im Metal so viel pseudo-symphonisches Material, bei dem es vor allem um möglichst viel programmierte Drums und Orchester aus der Dose zu gehen scheint. Wir wollten ein Album machen, das ausschließlich mit von Menschen erzeugten Sounds arbeitet - entweder von Händen getrommelt oder von vielen Stimmen gesungen", erklärt Drummer Bastian, der auch als Dirigent den verschiedenen beteiligten Chören die Richtung vorgibt.

When Haydn stopped in Passau on his second journey to England, he heard a vocal version of his own orchestral work “The Seven Last Words”. It had been made by the Kapellmeister at Passau cathedral Joseph Friebert and Haydn was quite impressed – except: “I believe I could have done the voice parts better”. He acquired a copy and set about making his own vocal version, taking over most of the text. Haydn particularly liked his own vocal work and it was also enthusiastically received by his contemporaries. The study edition is based on the volume (HN 5822) published as part of the Complete Edition by the Joseph Haydn Institute in Cologne.
